Still, as in records past, the twin pantheons of synthpop and classic VG music are invoked —not as tribute or pastiche, instead fleetingly familiar textures interwoven in a fashion as singular and cooly assured as mastermind
Vincent Segretario’s voice, which propels the EP— crying out loud and whispering the words to poems you never sent. Alongside Segretario, Hannah Avalon moves from live member to creative collaborator, contributing to the ethereal come up of “Glass" and the ecstatic lullaby of closer “Wading." The two have worked together in both anarcho-punk bands and musical theater productions, and somehow this wildly divergent history finds triumphant amalgamation in GREYAREA. This is the soundtrack to an impossible John Hughes movie where all the kids wear black lipstick and dance to the end of the world and everyone kisses and all hearts break when the credits roll.
