And So We Remember
Winterlong Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Innocent eyes
Your life is slowly drifting away
You paid the price
But will you ever be remembered?

I remember you and I can recall
Everything that went right through my mind
But it doesn't rhyme and it won't die
I took the train to present history
What did I see could not believe my eyes
And it hurts like hell to see what lies
Beyond all this madness
Let us go beyond

Holy bible in thy name
Here we sacrifice to you
All in the name of our religion
May the blood be washed away
And so we remember
And so we'll remember

On and on we are marching steady
Nothing is sacred not anymore
The sky is burning and the earth is turning
But history steal records
And then the promise given is
We must never forget

Holy bible in thy name
Here we sacrifice to you
All in the name of our religion
Holy father in thy name
We will kill and rape unfaithfuls
All for the sake of our religion
May the blood be washed away
Holy bible in thy name
Here we sacrifice to you
All in the name of our religion
May the blood be washed away
Holy father in thy name
All for the sake of our religion

May the blood be washed away
And so we remember

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Winterlong's "And So We Remember" seem to be commenting on the cyclical nature of violence and conflict throughout history. The first verse describes someone whose life is slowly slipping away, and asks if they will be remembered. This sets the stage for the rest of the song, which deals with the idea of remembering past atrocities and human bloodshed.

The second verse suggests that the singer is struggling to come to terms with what they have seen - "it hurts like hell to see what lies beyond all this madness". This could be a reference to war, genocide, or any other kind of senseless violence. The chorus begins with a reference to the Holy Bible, and seems to describe a sacrificial ritual. The repetition of the phrase "all in the name of our religion" suggests that the singer is commenting on religious conflicts throughout history.

The final verse is perhaps the most disturbing, as it describes violence committed in the name of religion. It is unclear whether the lyrics are criticizing these actions, or simply describing them. The repeated line "may the blood be washed away" adds to the sense of violence and sacrifice. In the end, the song seems to be suggesting that we must remember these events in order to prevent them from happening again.
