While playing live, the band attempts to make the listener as much a part of the music as the band themselves by encouraging everyone to sing along.
They were nominated for two Juno Awards of 2008 and took home one of them: Alternative Album of the Year, and New Group of the Year (which they won).

In Came the Flood
Wintersleep Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
He's been and gone, left you alone
His tongues and eyes, oh why, why would I?
So you wouldn't try to have her believe it
It's obvious, so come to your senses
Take a ride to the times you live in
You're no fool, just a cruel, cruel animal
Are you so cruel? You're such a cruel, cruel animal
In came the flood, in came the flood
And everything (and everything) is as it was
The vacant earth, cold dawn out of bed
The darkened sky, the same sky you're dressed in
It's obvious, so come to your senses
Take a ride to the times you live in
You're no fool, just a cruel, cruel animal
Are you so cruel? You're such a cruel, cruel animal
The lyrics to Wintersleep's "In Came the Flood" present a haunting tale of prophesy, abandonment, and cruelty. The song begins with the prophet's prediction that God would come, but he has now departed, leaving the singer all alone. The use of the word "tongues" could refer to the prophet's use of language to convince people to believe in his message, but it may also suggest a religious ceremony involving a divine spirit. Despite the prophet's promises, the singer questions their sincerity and wonders if he was merely trying to persuade her to believe in him. The repetition of "cruel, cruel animal" emphasizes the singer's sense of betrayal and disillusionment.
As the title suggests, a flood has come and washed everything away, leaving the world vacant and in darkness. The singer seems to be reflecting on the aftermath of a catastrophic event, perhaps a natural disaster or a societal collapse. The darkened sky, in particular, stands out as a poignant symbol of a lost world. The singer urges herself to come to her senses and embrace the present moment, despite the trauma she has experienced. The repeated refrain of "in came the flood, in came the flood, and everything is as it was" highlights the cyclical nature of life and the inevitability of change.
Overall, "In Came the Flood" presents a powerful and somber meditation on the fragility of life and the devastation wrought by forces beyond our control. The imagery and symbolism throughout the song create a vivid and haunting atmosphere, leaving a lasting impression on the listener.
