1) A vaporwave musician from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Actually Winter Sleep, but Last.fm autocorrects it to Wintersleep.
2) Wintersleep are a Canadian indie rock band from Halifax, Nova Scotia. What started out as a side-project, eventually turned into one of the most popular live shows in Atlantic Canada. Wintersleep came together in 2001 and is composed of Loel Campbell (drums), Paul Murphy (guitar/vocals), Tim D'Eon (guitar/keyboards), Mike Bigelow (keyboards '05-'06/bass guitar), Jon Samuel (keyboards/backing vocals/guitar) and former member Jud Haynes (bass guitar).
Wintersleep are a part of Dependent Music, a music label/collective that began in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia in 1994.
Albums to date (2023) include:
Wintersleep 2003
Untitled 2005
Welcome to the Night Sky Oct 2007
New Inheritors 2010
Hello Hum 2012
The Great Detachment 2016
In the Land Of 2019
Their music style is rooted in indie rock and has ambient and occasional shoegaze elements. Performances have been described as "entirely honest" and "deeply moving" with "captivating ambiance". While playing live, the band attempts to make the listener as much a part of the music as the band themselves by encouraging everyone to sing along.
They were nominated for two Juno Awards of 2008 and took home one of them: Alternative Album of the Year, and New Group of the Year (which they won).

Preservation
Wintersleep Lyrics

In that green, pastel
Summer dress
You'd die alone with the land
A hollow head in its hands
But everybody does that
But with particular scorn
In polyurethane form,
Preservation
Hide in our hideous masks
Your daddy's shitty
Shake grass
I told you I couldn't see it
A monument of pills
Grocery lists, telephone bills
Pamphlets and dollar
Store trinkets
Preservation
But if that was how you put it
And if you ever willed it
I would embroider you
In disaffected kisses
In bleach reticent sunsets
Soldered animal glue
A hand too heavy to hold
Lips that won't
Do what they're told
How do we ever begin it?
How do we grow old?
Preservation
The lyrics to Wintersleep's "Preservation" describe a moment of intimate sadness and introspection. The song begins by recounting a night where a person was hurt in a green pastel summer dress, and now feels hollow and alone. But the lyrics indicate that this feeling is not unique, and that everyone experiences moments of feeling emotionally frozen or hollow. The reference to "polyurethane form" suggests that this might be a more pervasive feeling of emotional deadness, while the "particular scorn" indicates a more specific hurt that is inflicted.
The second verse of "Preservation" shifts the focus slightly, describing the ways in which people try to protect themselves from such hurts. Here, the lyrics refer to "hideous masks" and "daddy's shitty shake grass," suggesting that people try to hide their true selves or seek escapes in order to protect themselves. The references to bills and pamphlets add to this sense of trying to hide or cover up the reality of our lives. But in the chorus, the song comes back to the central theme of preservation: what is it that we really want to preserve, and how do we achieve it? The final lines express a doubt about whether there is any simple answer: "A hand too heavy to hold / Lips that won't / Do what they're told / How do we ever begin it? / How do we grow old?"
