Rapture
Wintersleep Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Are my jokes so dry? I feel them crumble from my mouth
Get the car I'll drive, only if you're feeling bold
There's a pyre tonight, tell me do you feel as old as I do?
Only a momentary capture, cold as I do
Feel like I feel the rapture, old as I do
Only a momentary capture, I desire you
Get the car alive, tell me if we're getting lost
We can drive all night, spell our names in the deep frost
Under the surprise light, take photographs of second thoughts
Because we're not surprised, only if you don't get caught like I did
Only a momentary capture, cold as I do
Feel like I feel the rapture, old as I do
Only a momentary capture, I desire you
Come on baby, feel the rapture
Turn the car alive, take photographs of second thoughts
We can drive all night, tell me if we're getting lost
The lyrics of Wintersleep's song "Rapture" offer a glimpse into a moment of uncertainty and reflection. The singer is outside, seemingly waiting for someone, and questioning their own existence as they ask if their jokes are too dry. The line "there's a pyre tonight, tell me do you feel as old as I do?" hints at a funeral or some other form of loss. The sense of impending doom is palpable, but so is the desire to feel alive, to experience rapture.
The refrain "only a momentary capture, cold as I do, feel like I feel the rapture, old as I do" is repeated throughout the song, and it speaks to the fleeting nature of life. The singer recognizes that moments of rapture are rare, but they still fiercely desire them. The line "come on baby, feel the rapture" is both an invitation and a plea, a reminder that life is short and should be lived to the fullest.
Overall, "Rapture" is a complex and introspective song that explores the dichotomy of life and death, joy and sorrow. Its lyrics capture a moment in time that is both beautiful and fleeting, urging the listener to embrace life and all its uncertainties.
