Mad World
Wise Guys Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

All around me are familiar faces, worn out places, worn out faces.
Bright and early for the daily races, going nowhere, going nowhere.
And their tears are fillin’ up their glasses, no expression, no expression.
Hide my head I wanna drown my sorrow, no tomorrow, no tomorrow.

And I find it kind of funny, I find it kind of sad.
The dreams in which I’m dying are the best I’ve ever had.
I find it hard to tell you, I find it hard to take.
When people run in circles it’s a very, very
Mad World, Mad World.

Children waiting for the day they feel good. Happy Birthday, Happy Birthday.
Made to feel the way that every child should sit and listen sit and listen.
Went to school and I was very nervous, no one knew me, no one knew me.
Hello teacher tell me what’s my lesson, look right through me, look right through me.

And I find it kind of funny, I find it kind of sad.
The dreams in which I’m dying are the best I’ve ever had.
I find it hard to tell you, I find it hard to take.

When people run in circles it’s a very, very
Mad World, Mad World, Mad World, Mad World.

Overall Meaning

The song "Mad World" by Wise Guys is an emotional and thought-provoking piece that delves into the struggles of the human experience. The opening lines paint a vivid picture of a world that is bleak and uninspiring. The repetition of "worn out places, worn out faces" emphasizes the mundanity and apathy that is felt by so many. The phrase "going nowhere" indicates a sense of hopelessness and a lack of direction. The tears that are filling up the glasses of these people suggest an underlying sadness that is present in the world.

The songwriter then turns the focus inward, stating that he finds it funny and sad that the dreams in which he is dying are the best he's ever had. This line expresses a common paradox of the human experience, where some of the most vivid and powerful emotions come from the most negative experiences. The songwriter struggles to express these feelings to others, finding it hard to tell them and hard to take. The idea of people running in circles suggests a sense of futility in life, where individuals are unable to break free from their cycles and make meaningful change. The repetition of the phrase "Mad World" emphasizes the chaotic and overwhelming nature of life.

The final verse turns to the experiences of children, who are waiting for the day they feel good and made to feel the way every child should. However, the songwriter's own experience at school was one of nervousness and isolation, as no one knew him and the teacher looked right through him. This sense of isolation and lack of connection is a common experience for many children and highlights the struggles they face as they grow up.

Bei diesem Song an die Auflösung der Wise Guys zu denken, fühlt sich wirklich an wie eine Mad World.
Einfach perfekt gecovert. Irgendwie traurig wenn man alle so glücklich in der alten Besetzung sieht.
