That's That
Wishbone Ash Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

What can I say?
My position is clear
When it comes to you
I got the right idea.
I just can't stand you
For one more day -
When daylight breaks
I'll be miles away.
'Cause I know what I want
And I know you do too
So that's that.

This is the day I stand up and fight.
There's no price on my head
I know I'm right.
The debt is all yours

Now I'm going away
I got a feeling someday you'll repay.

Overall Meaning

In Wishbone Ash's That's That, the lyrics depict a sense of frustration and sadness in a relationship gone wrong. The singer expresses their clear position towards the person they're involved with, stating that they can't stand to be around them for one more day. They acknowledge that they both know what they want, but instead of working together to achieve their wishes, the singer chooses to leave, asserting that they have the "right idea". The singer's strong resolve is clear as they state, "This is the day I stand up and fight" and "There's no price on my head, I know I'm right". As the song comes to a close, they emphasize that they are leaving and that the debt in the relationship is now with the other person, not themselves.

The song portrays a sense of unrequited love and a message of empowerment for those who recognize when they need to move on from a relationship. The lyrics of That's That showcase the challenges faced when trying to make sense of the complicated emotions involved in such situations. The song has a strong and catchy melody, with powerful guitar riffs that build momentum throughout.

Wonderful tune, tight groove, thunderbolt base and great vocals. Just missing a great up front mix.

It's so hard to play bass like that. His right hand suffered carpel tunnel because of it.

Incredible track ! Sounds like a rock version of ASIA, 2 years before the first Asia album ! John Wetton rocks !

Benoit Vanhees

Yes there are some similarities there...

+Yoyo Tchikita Time Again...right?

Why is this the only song where Wetton sings lead? He should have been the lead on most, if not all the songs.

Yes , you are right. I have the same question : why is this the only track where JOHN WETTON 's perfect voice can be heard ??? He had one of the most beautiful versatile voices a singer could have !!! He was not born to be backing vocals. And yet , he did that with the URIAH HEEP. Too many great voices there, though: DAVID BYRON, KEN HENSLEY .

Philip Townsend

As a lifelong Wishbone Ash fan, had to listen to this today - on the occasion of John Wetton's passing....

Same here... sad.
