OCD
Witchrider Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Bet you say that you want it
Until the grease comes out
Bet you say that you're livin'
But the hole fills up with doubt

Say that you want it, say it and then
You'll never know you're wrong
Say that you need it, say it
It's the obsession you prolong

You say you ride the tide
Cutting holes on the inside
You can't prevent the mole
To be spying on your soul

Bet you think that you need it
Until the water boils
Bet you think that you're living
'till you crumble into soil

Say that you love it, say it and then
You'll never know you're wrong
Say that you feel it, say it
It's the obsession you prolong

You say you ride the tide
Cutting holes on the inside
You can't prevent the mole
To be spying on your soul

Gain and avail not found
You're about to hit the ground

We always will remain
Just a mix of bleach and stains, ahhh

Overall Meaning

In Witchrider's song OCD, the lyrics address the idea of obsession and how it can consume a person's life. The first two lines suggest that the desire for something may be strong, but eventually one's insecurities and fears will resurface. The repetition of "say that you want it" and "say that you need it" shows the constant justification one feels when dealing with an obsession. The lyrics also touch on the idea of being watched and the mole metaphorically spying on one's soul. This imagery suggests that the obsession has taken over and is consuming every aspect of the individual’s life.

The chorus "You say you ride the tide / Cutting holes on the inside / You can't prevent the mole / To be spying on your soul" implies that despite the efforts to control the obsession, it still manages to penetrate the individual's life. The song further explores the effects of the person's obsession; "gain and avail not found / You're about to hit the ground," suggests that the obsession has left the individual feeling empty and out of control. The final line "Just a mix of bleach and stains" suggests that the person has been tainted by their obsession and will never be able to completely rid themselves of it.
