Call it growing up
But that's a front
You forget just how real
Life can feel
Finding it pointless
To even say a word
If it's all in fear
Don't confuse the kindness in my eyes
For a weakness telling me to compromise
There's no bottle filled with answers
No universal standard written down
To save your life
But I bet this sounded better in your head
I'm losing interest in all your promises
It's a matter of fact
I was all alone
You were only looking out for yourself
I'll make my home inside this lighthouse
It's where I'll find my own answers to it all
I just can't pretend to be comfortable
With seeing the world through someone else's eyes
The lyrics of With the Punches's song Home In A Lighthouse speak about the struggles of growing up and accepting the changes that come along with it. The singer denies that change is always for the better, instead, it is a front that people put up to justify their behavior. While growing up, people forget to stay true to themselves and the realities of life, becoming fearful of what others might think. They find it pointless to speak and express themselves, becoming more reserved and introverted.
However, the singer refuses to compromise his beliefs and values. There is no set rule or guidebook to life, it's up to the individual to find their own path, and there is no one answer that fits all. The listener is warned not to confuse the kindness in the singer's eyes for weakness. The chorus of the song talks about finding one's own home inside a lighthouse where he can seek his own answers and not pretend to be comfortable seeing the world through someone else's eyes.
Overall, the lyrics speak about staying authentic and true to oneself as people grow and face changes in their lives. The singer emphasizes that it's crucial to stand firm while finding one's place in the world and the experience of facing struggles alone.
