Forever
Wizard Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I thought I'd live forever
In a vale of dying stars
But I missed out on who you are
And a promise sometimes fades
And stars die every day
I thought I'd meet you one day
In a field, in wind and rain
But I noticed something is not the same
And a promise always dies
And stars have finite lives
And I missed out on the whole world according to you!
But that's okay; I'm not ashamed to be myself!
I thought I'd live forever

But a star must also die
And I missed out on all my life

Overall Meaning

The Wizard's song "Forever" centers around the idea of mortality and missed opportunities. The singer laments that they had always thought they would live forever along with the stars, but as they grow older they realize that this is not the case. The singer mourns for the things they have missed out on, including meeting someone special in a field during wind and rain. However, in the end, the singer comes to terms with their life, stating that they are not ashamed of who they are despite everything they have missed out on.

The lyrics of this song are powerful and thought-provoking. They remind us that life is short and that we should cherish every moment we have. The idea of missed opportunities is one that many people can relate to, and the message of acceptance, even in the face of regret, is a powerful one.

This came out at the same time as I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday. He had two singles in the top ten at the same time over christmas 1974 .. Those were the days. Who would have imagined then that Roy's star would not have continued to shine that bright forever... So talented.

@mariapearce8617

Yes 1974

@davidmacgregor5193

@@mariapearce8617 Nope, it was 1973 when "Forever" was released, "Goin' Down the Road" was Woody's 1974 hit single.

@johnheppenstall4904

Underrated genius of British popular music. And a massive heartbeat in everything he did

@michaelrck

Roy Wood is another one of those gems among the mire and so under rated and overlooked in his personal contribution to the british music scene it's criminal. When I die this track and California Man will be the perfect musical epitaff. Rock on Roy, God bless your genius
