1. Wizard is a German Power Metal band, formed in 1989 by the drummer Sören van Heek. The band was often called "Germany's answer to Manowar". On some albums the lyrics are about battles, metal, war and steel. The exception were the albums Odin, which is a concept album about Norse mythology, Goochan which is a fantasy story about a witch (written by Volker Leson and author William B. Nuke), Thor which is also about north mythology and ... of wariwulfs and bluotvarwes which is about vampires and werewolfs (written by Wizard and Andre Wiesler, German author).
Wizard played at Wacken Open Air 2002, Bang Your Head!!! 2002, Keep It True 2004, Dokk'em Open Air 2006, Magic Circle Festival 2009 and is in the 2012 line-up of Hammerfest IV. In 2003 longtime guitarist Michael Maass quit the band because of health problems. In 2006 the band left the label Limb Music after four albums and joined the somewhat bigger label Massacre Records with a new album in mind to be released in January 27, 2007, titled Goochan. On may 18th, 2007, Michael Maass returned to the band after a three-year break. The band's 2009 album Thor received a positive review from The Pit reviewer Frank Heise, who praised "The Visitor" as the best track on it.
The band's 2011 album ...Of Wariwulfs and Bluotvarwes received a positive review from SLUG Magazine reviewer Dylan Chadwick noting that "well trodden, and admittedly formulaic, it's a resoundingly competent platter of steel-willed, fist pounding heavy metal that'll satisfy the most voracious headbanger's hunger."
Pale Rider
Wizard Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
To conquer and rule nothing is safe
To suck it out like a spider a fly
By his mental strength he controls
The mankind and gave religion
But their gods are so far away
It doesn't matter how many will die
It doesn't matter how many will cry
[Ref:]
He is the Pale Pale rider
The bringer of death, suffer and pain
Pale Pale rider
The lord of destruction is his name
Behind the clouds their lives a tribe
In a cold world where all life will die
They wait for for the helping hands
All treasure he found here on this earth
And at other planets he robbed too
In thousands of years of his endless pain
I am the Pale rider searching for superiority
The world where I live is like hell so dark
All hate around me I can understand
But my tribe is dependent at all energy you have.
The lyrics of Wizard's song Pale Rider describe a malevolent and powerful entity that has come to Earth from outer space. This being has the ability to control the minds of humans, and he uses this power to establish religion and bring about destruction and suffering. He is described as a bringer of death and pain, with the ability to conquer and rule without any consideration for the lives of those he destroys.
The second verse speaks about a tribe that lives behind the clouds, isolated from the rest of the world due to the fact that all life on Earth will eventually die. They are searching for help from this Pale rider, who has amassed a great deal of wealth and energy from other planets in his quest for superiority. The lyrics are particularly bleak and devoid of any hope, with the Pale rider described as a lord of destruction, and the tribe desperate for his help in spite of his malevolence.
The lyrics of Pale Rider seem to be a commentary on the nature of power and the dangers of unchecked dominance. The Pale rider is portrayed as a malevolent and uncontrollable force, without any sense of morality or empathy for those he destroys. In spite of this, however, the tribe behind the clouds is still dependent on the energy he has accumulated, suggesting that power itself is perhaps an inherent danger that cannot be controlled or managed. The song is a powerful warning against the consequences of seeking domination and control over others.
