The Grandmaster's Curse
Wizzard Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Through the flames had drowned the voices of the defending knights
The rumours of innocence stayed persistently alive
The pope and the king still driven by their greed blood-stained
Sought to abolish the order by seizing de Molay

A small island on the river Seine
The Notre Dame glanced at a stand with two stakes
The Grandmaster and his companion
Were to face a slow death at the stake
Their villains saw to the best discretion
Only few people believed the malicious claims

Bound in chains the proud old man climbed up to the stand
Followed to a horrid death by an old friend
With a firm and clear voice he retracted his confession
Telling there was a conspiracy behind the accusations

Again in the Paris air
The stench of roasting Templar flesh
The flames were made to burn slowly
To enhance the agony of their death

At his very last moment
Turned de Molay to the king and the pope

"Within a year you will pay for your crime
within a year you will burn in Hell"

Overall Meaning

"The Grandmaster's Curse" by Wizzard is a song that deals with the brutal execution of the last Grandmaster of the Knights Templar, Jacques de Molay, and his companion Geoffrey de Charny. The track describes how the medieval order, founded in the Holy Land during the Crusades to protect Christian pilgrims, was dissolved by the Roman Catholic Church and the French monarchy in 1312, after being accused of heresy, blasphemy, and homosexuality. The lyrics evoke the horror, injustice, and defiance of the Templars in the face of the rulers' relentless persecution, greed, and lies.

The first verse of the song establishes the context of the story by mentioning the flames that drowned the voices of the defending knights and the persistent rumours of innocence that challenged the official narrative. The second verse shifts to the scene of the execution, which took place on a small island in the river Seine, near the Notre Dame cathedral, in March 1314. De Molay and de Charny were brought to the stake, where they faced a slow and painful death by fire. The villains who had orchestrated their downfall and capture wanted to avoid any public sympathy for the victims by suppressing their defense and slandering them with false accusations. However, the last Grandmaster refused to yield to their pressure and recant his previous confession, which he claimed had been obtained under torture and manipulation. Instead, he exposed the conspiracy that had led to his condemnation and challenged the divine justice of his persecutors.

The chorus of the song emphasizes the irony and the poetic justice of the Grandmaster's curse, in which he predicts that the king and the pope who had ordered his death would suffer a similar fate within a year. This curse proved to be eerily accurate, as both the king and the pope died within a few months of the execution, and many historians and conspiracy theorists have associated their demise with the vengeance of the Templars. The final verse of the song reinforces the symbolic resonance of the event by referring to the lingering smell of human flesh burning in the Paris air, which evokes the macabre and unforgettable nature of the spectacle that had shocked the city and the world. Thus, "The Grandmaster's Curse" is a powerful tribute to the memory of a legendary figure and a tragically heroic episode that still resonates with historical and cultural significance.

While I, am an ex christian myself, I will say you are right based off the Roman catholic church and the many blasphemous/contradictions/go against etc the main principles abd commands if your Bible....

I've also seen it go both ways. At the end of the day, you'll realize it's way deeper yet simpler than you grasp
When somethingsvdone out of a pyre heart and good intentions/energy is involved, prayer can be powerful.
My family knows personally of the woman Bernadette ginka, she passed away years ago but Roman catholic, she had some incredible prayers answered etc
Won the lottery
Etc
At the end of the day, it's all about peoples intentions sincerity and pure energy that's put into prayer that counts. So even though I'm no longer a believer in Christianity anymore, I wouldn't be so quick to downplay Zachary king as well

I can't wait for part 2. I was a child of sexual abuse from my father from 6 months old till age 10 then again when I was 14. I discovered he was also a leader of a Satanic Cult and I had been sacrificed sexually. It's a crazy story involving being sold/ promised to the devil 500 year's before I was born by my Gr.gr.gr.ect...Grandmother. I'm so glad your bringing awareness to people that this stuff is real. Blessings to you ❤

My girlfriend was worried that i was listening to this. Ill tell you all the same reason i told her, im listening to try and see how dark these people really are. Research purpose only, i fully accept Jesus Christ as my Lord and savior.

@Leon.Randle

Amen! I plead the blood of Jesus

@Luckbwithyou

What? Why would your girlfriend be worried about you watching this? And why do you feel the need to explain to everyone that you're watching this for research purposes only? That sounds sketch ah to me. You know who else claims they watch disturbing things for research purposes only?

@jerryhechter2996

@Luckbwithyou there is nothing wrong with doing research, maybe he wants to write a book or essay about the true nature of abortion or do a documentary on satanists, maybe he even wants to save a friend from making a very big mistake. I am just very glad that he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. We should pray that he is safe and that whatever reason for his research that it can save a life or reaffirms his decision to serve God and follow Jesus.
