The Thing Is This
Wizzard Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

This is the story of my love
Don't be afraid and let it fall
Shine down on me until tomorrow
Fate is not so helpless after all ooh ooh

This is the story of my love
I know sometimes it makes you wait
But as the last rung of the ladder
So does tender love in it's own way ooh ooh

All I ask of you is to believe in my emotion
Yes I will return ready to give
My true devotion to your love
This is the story of my love
Beautiful fire it keeps me warm
I feel the magic all around me
Once a year you hold me in your arms
Ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh

All I ask of you is to believe in my emotion
Yes I will return ready to give
My true devotion to your love
This is the story of my love
Don't be afraid and let it fall
Shine down on me until tomorrow
Fate is not so helpless after all

Ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh oh
Oh ooh ooh ooh ooh baby Baby
Sha la la la sha la la la
Sha la la la sha la la la
Ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh oh oh ooh ooh ooh ooh

Baby Baby sha la la la sha la la la
Sha la la la sha la la la (Fade)

Another piece of musical Wizzardry from Dr Roy Wood.

@gerrycoogan6544

This single snuck under my radar at the time and this is the first time I've ever heard the B-side. Personally, I dig it when he goes way out there but I can see why record company marketing men would have been frowning.
Who wrote it? Wizzard B-sides were usually written by - or at least credited to - other hand members. I've always had a feeling that Roy didn't push for a credit on some tracks that he made massive contributions to (10538 Overture being one that springs to mind) but I could be totally wrong about that. It's no more than an impression that I've always had.

ROY WOOD A GREART ONE!!!

@FinnMove

Wizzard should have released that jazzy- influenced Main Street album in the 1970´s Though it was that time judged too uncommercial to release, it is quite enjoyable.

@davidmacgregor5193

When Wizzard recorded the "Main Street" album in 1976 they were signed to the Jet record label which was owned and run by the notorious jewboy Don Arden (birth name Harry Levy). He was also the manager of Wizzard and ELO, it was Arden's decision not to release "Main Street" as he deemed it uncommercially viable. In recent years Roy Wood has admitted that he was contracted to Arden for too long and he blamed Arden for halting his musical creativity and momentum. Don Arden ruined Roy Wood's career, he also ripped off both Roy Wood and Jeff Lynne for a lot of money. I met Roy in November 2018 during his Rock & Roll Band's tour, he's a really nice down to earth guy who always has time to talk to his fans.

@gerrycoogan6544

Roy is a fellow that I've always wanted to meet. His music inspired me to become a professional musician. I love the guy.
