You Got Me Running
Wizzard Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Do do do do Sham-a-lama-ding dong
Do do do do Sham-a-lama-ding dong
Do do do do Sham-a-lama-ding dong

You got me running
All over this town
You got me running
You never let me down

But when I take a date with a girl or two
Better stop, stop
Can't get it through
Don't make me hop all over the world

You got me running
You treat me like a fool
You got me running
How can you be so cruel
But the guys on the street are putting me down
Better stop, stop running around
Don't hippity hop all over the world

Oh baby I wanna be kissed by you
Oh you can't resist
So please don't freeze me like a fool

You got me running
My love is out of bounds
You got me running
I love you but I found
The phone don't ring and no love letter

Stop, stop, I know I've better
Don't hippity hop all over the world

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Wizzard's song You Got Me Running are a representation of a person in a complicated and tumultuous relationship. The beat and rhythm of the song are very catchy, with a repetitive chorus that lingers long after the music has stopped. The first verse starts with a series of "do-do-doos" followed by "sham-a-lama-ding-dongs", which comes before the singer talks about how much their significant other is causing them to run. The main character is running all over the town without rest, and it is because of their lover. This loss of control is actually welcome for the singer because they never feel let down by their lover.

However, the song is not only about the positive aspects of the singer's lover. The second verse talks about how their lover is also cruel to them. The singer is being treated like a fool but finds it challenging to let go of their lover. At the same time, the peers of the singer are putting them down, making them feel embarrassed for their weakness for the lover. The singer wants to be kissed by their lover and doesn't want to be frozen out, but their lover seems to be playing a game and pushing the singer to the limit. The third verse is about how the singer's love is running out of control, and their lover has stopped contacting them. The song ends with an appeal by the singer for their lover not to hop all over the world.

In conclusion, Wizzard's song, You Got Me Running, is about an obsessive and complicated love relationship. The song talks about the joys and struggles of being in love and how it can bring both happiness and pain. The chorus is repetitive and catchy, while the verses are more introspective and emotional. Wizzard does an excellent job of conveying the powerful emotions that come with loving someone.

@beink

What's incredible about this cut is that it's a cast of thousands with respect to influences. Gene Vincent, Elvis, Del Shannon, but the secret ingredient is a dash of Lou Christie. Those background vocals are pure Lou.

@94HEATH94

My thoughts exactly @beink. The background vocals remind me The Gypsy Cried - Lou Christie.

@adriandinsdale5805

Not forgetting the " Mary Lou" James Burton inspired guitar solo.
