The Walking Dead
Woe Is Me Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

What makes you think you can get away with murder
And just walk away from fucking everything?
You'll be the walking dead.
You'll be the walking dead, with our wills around your neck.

So our advice to you is just keep running.

Run from everyone and everything.
What makes you think that you could put our name to shame?
Rest in peace is what they say,
But how can you bury something that came from nothing;
Even though our dreams aren't dead?

And I just can't let this one go, so let's set the story straight.
We will be heard, no matter what the fuck it takes!
And I'll make you realize that you can place the blame,
But you can't erase me from this game.
Because as long as there's you, I'll do what it takes to prove we're still the same.

So what the fuck are we waiting for?
It's time we stand up for ourselves,
And if that doesn't make it clear enough
Then our friends are here to help.

We've been put down by everyone we thought we knew,
But we're just fine here 'cause we could never sink as low as you.
The times have changed, the tables turned.
I thought you'd get the point by now, but I guess that you will never learn.

So just look out for yourself, it seems to be your past time.
So here's your ticket to Hell, it seems you missed it the last time.
Welcome to Hell.

So now it's our turn to speak.
You'll have no choice but to hear us out,
When we tell them about the truth
And how you tried so hard to sell us out.
So just look out for yourself, it seems to be your past time.
So here's your ticket to Hell, it seems you missed it last time.

So welcome to Hell.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Woe Is Me's "The Walking Dead" is a message directed towards someone who committed a crime and thinks they can get away with it. The song starts with the line "What makes you think you can get away with murder?" indicating that the crime may be a murder. The lyrics also suggest that this person has betrayed the trust of those around them by putting their name to shame. The chorus emphasizes that the person will be the walking dead with the weight of their actions around their neck.

The lyrics continue to convey the theme of not being able to erase the past, as the line "But you can't erase me from this game" suggests that the band will not let this person forget their actions. There is also a strong sense of unity and a call to action for the band's friends to stand up and help them. The lyrics also hint at the band being misrepresented and put down by people they trusted. The song ends with a warning for the person to look out for themselves and that they missed their chance to avoid punishment.

I don't understand why people hate on this song. This song is a fucking masterpiece to me. The clean vocals are absolutely amazing, and the screams are awesome too.

Kobe Brown

Matty's part actually sent chills down my spine, I didn't know he could bring his vocals to such a heavy growl to compare to Woe, Is Me's screamer. I miss this version of Woe, they were definitely finding their sound with their EP, this album was amazing too, lyricism and topics of the songs set aside.

TGS300

Man, this is a quality song. Just like any other band, both WIM and Issues have their ups and downs. I'm content with both sides.

Sarode22

This is probably the best album of this year with Challenger from Memphis May Fire !

i think there is more emotion in this album than any other Woe, Is me album(i do like the older albums). But this album has a huge meaning. Can't wait to see them December 2nd at Northern Lights

Mikey

I honestly think the album is awesome. it's harder than their older stuff and I have no problem with it. I also think that "angry" sort of lyrics well with this genre and it just makes sense

This band rules! I'm glad i found their music

Tyler Herron

I LOVE Hance's last part towards the end. Along with the chorus part in "Family First", one of the best parts in the entire album. I love Genesi[s], ha. Never been more proud to be a member of the [army] \m/

Nick Z

Goose bumps throughout the whole song. No exaggeration.
