The lyrics of Wolf Gang's "Lay Your Love Down" narrate the emotions and thoughts of someone who is constantly plagued by regret, but at the same time yearns for the love of their partner. The opening lines describe the transition of their partner's gaze from "gold to greys of our skies", signifying a shift from a brighter, happier phase of their relationship to a darker, more desolate one. The singer beats themselves up with "these thoughts" and "question marks", regretting the choices they made that might have led them to this point.
