Wolf Parade released their eponymous debut EP in 2003 with only Spencer, Dan and Arlen performing on it. After Hadji joined the group, they released another independent, self-titled EP in 2004. They were signed to Sub Pop by Isaac Brock of Modest Mouse and released their first widely-distributed record, Wolf Parade EP. In September 2005 their debut album Apologies to the Queen Mary was released.
Apologies to the Queen Mary was given this name because, as in rock and roll tradition, Wolf Parade trashed the Queen Mary hotel. It was said that they trashed the hotel worse than any band before them.
Their second album, At Mount Zoomer, was released June 17, 2008, and third, Expo 86 on July 5, 2010. On November 29th 2010 Wolf Parade called an indefinite hiatus.
The haitus ended when the band released Cry Cry Cry on Oct 6, 2017.
We Built Another World

Outside there's girls saying falling bricks
It's not gonna be just only a kiss
Everyone's disguised just a little bit
I had a bad, bad, time tonight
I had a bad, bad, time tonight
Bad things happen in the night
Where we built another world
Styles surround you, here comes the night time
Where we built another world
Evening time
I made a loud sound and shake some teeth
Outside the lights pale across the street
It's not gonna be just only a kiss
Everyone's disguised just a little bit
I had a bad, bad, time tonight
I had a bad, bad, time tonight
Bad things happen in the night
Where we built another world
Styles surround you, here comes the night time
Where we built another world
Evening time
Where we built another world
Hang ghosts from the trees and that's what I saw
Where we built another world
Hang ghosts from the trees and that's what I saw
Where we built another world
Where we built another world
Where we built another world
Here comes the night time
Where we built another world
Here comes the night time
"We Built Another World" by Wolf Parade is a song that explores the theme of escapism through partying and building another world. The first verse talks about being at a party, with the participants wearing disguises and chained at the wrists, suggesting a sense of camaraderie and shared purpose. However, there are also girls outside, hinting at a possibility for romance or trouble (or both). The second verse delves into the darker aspects of the night, with the singer having a bad time and alluding to bad things that can happen in the dark. Nevertheless, the chorus emphasizes the idea of building another world through the use of styles and evening time, which can transport the listener away from their worries.
The lyrics are cryptic and suggest a sense of disillusionment with reality, while yearning for escape. The line "Evening time, where we built another world" in the chorus is particularly potent, as it implies that the night is a space of creation and imagination, a time when one can construct a new reality. The repetition of the phrase "where we built another world" emphasizes this desire for a new and better reality, and the reference to ghosts hanging from trees suggests a haunted world, one full of mystery and adventure.
Overall, "We Built Another World" is a song that speaks to the human need for escapism and the desire to construct new realities. Through its evocative lyrics and driving beat, it invites the listener to enter another world and leave their worries behind.
