Turning Into Red
Wolfchant Lyrics

Poenam no sentio mortis, poena fuit vita, requies mihi morte parata est

Darker moon and darker night,
Far away from every light
Iron claws are holding me,
The death in flames is mine

I am sitting here alone, tortured and prisoned in my cell
I am sitting here alone, tortured and prisoned in my cell
Chains binding my hands and feets, I feel I am in hell
Chains binding my hands and feets, I feel I am in hell

I did never something wrong
Everyday I prayed to God

Darker moon and darker night,
Far away from every light
Iron claws are holding me,
The death in flames is mine

Live is dark and savage now, they blamed me as a witch
Live is dark and savage now, they blamed me as a witch
Years and years I healed the people, with the help of nature's power
Years and years I healed the people, with the help of nature's power

I did never something wrong
Everyday I prayed to God

I remember when I was young and the fields and the trees surrounding me
As a maid on a farm there was nothing bad and evil for me
All the terrible thing they said, my skin was burnt with fire
My life is turning into red, the inquisitions desire

I remember when I was young and the fields and the trees surrounding me
As a maid on a farm there was nothing bad and evil for me
All the terrible thing they said, my skin was burnt with fire
My life is turning into red, the inquisitions desire

I have to got to the pyre now, all my bones are broken
They spite on me - No help no angels here - I cannot flee
I am confined to a pile - tears of pain running from my eyes
The flames devour me, my fate is black

My fate is black
My fate is black

Darker moon and darker night,
Far away from every light
Iron claws are holding me,
The death in flames is mine

Darker moon and darker night,
Far away from every light

Iron claws are holding me,
The death in flames is mine

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Wolfchant's "Turning Into Red" tell a story of a person who has been condemned as a witch and sentenced to death by burning. The opening line, "Poenam no sentio mortis, poena fuit vita, requies mihi morte parata est," which roughly translates to "I do not feel the penalty of death, life was the penalty, rest is prepared for me in death," is spoken from the perspective of the condemned person, who has accepted their fate and awaits their execution. The lyrics describe the darkness of the night, the chains binding the person's hands and feet, and the iron claws holding them. The chorus repeats the lines "Darker moon and darker night, Far away from every light, Iron claws are holding me, The death in flames is mine," underscoring the intense feeling of isolation and confinement.

As the story unfolds, we learn that the person did not actually do anything wrong, but was accused of being a witch and healing people with "the help of nature's power" - an act that was seen as threatening by those in power. The woman remembers her youth when she was a maid on a farm and the fields and trees surrounded her. The story culminates in the burning of the accused person, with lines that describe the pain and terror of such a death: "I have to got to the pyre now, all my bones are broken, They spite on me - No help no angels here - I cannot flee, I am confined to a pile - tears of pain running from my eyes, The flames devour me, my fate is black."

The lyrics of "Turning into Red" highlight the injustice and brutality of the witch trials that were especially prevalent in Europe during the 15th to 18th centuries. This song can be seen as a warning against the dangers of unchecked power, as well as a tribute to the many people who suffered and died during the witch trials.

The moral of this story is: Know the line between martyrdom and foolishness (and where you stand, therin), or inevitably pay the ultimate price like whom Wolfchant is singing about! Don't believe me? Google "Turning To Red by Wolfchant lyrics", look at them thoroughly and you'll know exactly what I'm talking about. On the flip side, the opening is a heck of a way to rally the troops for war and let any/all opposing forces know: the end is near! MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

@juliopadilla2840

What I read from the lyrics is a grill accused of witchery and being executed to the pyre

@TchitoversalPharaonicEmperor

@Julio Padilla, that didn't make any sense.

@juliopadilla2840

@Omniversal Emperor Ja'ui fuck sorry, auto-correct and english not being my first language. What I mean is that the tale the song tell is about an innocent girl accussed of witchcraft and being sent to the pyre. I don't see anything about martyrdom, at least from my perspective

@Dolores-Cine
