Magnifica aria de Don Ottavio en Don Giovanni quien no entiende a su amada Doña Anna, pero con gran riqueza de matices donde la belleza del canto de JDF supera a la letra

Amazing technique and expression!
JDF said in an interview a while ago that he thinks Mozart is delicate and that he now feels ready to sing it. One can hear how much understanding and admiration he has for this genius composer and I hope we will get to hear him in a Mozart opera in the near future...

Fabulous! Florez compounds the difficulties of this aria and interpolates grace notes and extra top notes, including a cadenza into the second verse. This was the original version written by Mozart, but no tenor could sing it. This is probably the first time this version has been recorded -------- and leave it to Florez to be the one to do it.

@Larry Mitchell Agreed. Absolutely. He needs to work a lot, but I think he knows it. To me, it's a little bit like reading a novel right now: will he succeed? Or not? The study video showed just how much work still lies in front of him. You can find that on his Facebook page. I refrained from commenting, people had already mentioned Wunderlich and I didn't know what more to say. We will see what comes of it next year.

@Tesfu Weldemikael I didn't know that Florez is preparing Strauss Lieder. He better study VERY hard because Strauss is a musical idiom that he hasn't explored before. It's very great music that needs very careful and meticulous preparation. I have no doubt as to his vocal resources, but Florez must surely realize that Strauss' vocal music is very difficult to interpret. He would do well to study the work of Fritz Wunderlich, Nicolai Gedda, and other tenors who have excelled in this vocal music of Strauss, Schubert, Schumann, and the other great lieder singers if he's going to consider undertaking this kind of repertoire.

@Larry Mitchell I never payed attention to it, the more so as I don't have a studio version by FW. JDF is now preparing Strauss lieder, and I hope he listens to Wunderlich in the Heimliche Aufforderung (Auf, hebe die funkelnde Schale) during the process. He's one of the few who could draw the full inspiration of it into his own interpretation, or so I hope. The simple word "Schwätzer" may serve as an example of what I mean. I am anxious to hear these songs by JDF and want to see a concert of them...

Larry Mitchell

@Tesfu Weldemikael Yes, he did, and he did it very well, but he did NOT perform it with the extra embellishments that Florez interpolates.

Tesfu Weldemikael

Didn't Wunderlich do it?

Estoy seguro Wolfgang Amadeus nunca escuchó una interpretación tan espectacular, yo tampoco hasta ahora y llevo mucha ópera escuchada. Enhorabuena, el maestro estaría sorprendido y emocionado con esta interpretación.

Gorgeous....such phrasing and breath control! The chromatic passages are legato, but every half step is distinct, there’s no muddiness of pitch. Bravo!
