Despite his short life, his rapid pace of composition resulted in more than 800 works of virtually every Western classical genre of his time. Many of these compositions are acknowledged as pinnacles of the symphonic, concertante, chamber, operatic, and choral repertoire. Mozart is widely regarded as among the greatest composers in the history of Western music, with his music admired for its "melodic beauty, its formal elegance and its richness of harmony and texture".
Born in Salzburg, then in the Holy Roman Empire and currently in Austria, Mozart showed prodigious ability from his earliest childhood. Already competent on keyboard and violin, he composed from the age of five and performed before European royalty. His father took him on a grand tour of Europe and then three trips to Italy. At 17, he was a musician at the Salzburg court but grew restless and traveled in search of a better position.
While visiting Vienna in 1781, Mozart was dismissed from his Salzburg position. He stayed in Vienna, where he achieved fame but little financial security. During his final years there, he composed many of his best-known symphonies, concertos, and operas. His Requiem was largely unfinished by the time of his death at the age of 35, the circumstances of which are uncertain and much mythologized.

25:03 second movement returns in the third movement! Amazing “cross-movement” motivic integration here. We always credit Beethoven with this craftsmanship, but we know very well that he studied these concerti extensively.

One of the disadvantages I experienced in being raised with jazz, then rock, then later discovering Beethoven when I was 14, was that I allowed myself to think Mozart was too light.
One night when I was in my mid 20's, working a horrible job/night shift, the CBC (back when did didn't play crap) put on Perahia's Rondo in D with this orchestra. By then I had studied piano to about RCM Gr 9, composition and even a summer camp of conducting. Mozart hit me with his charm, wit, joy, sunshine, and angelic balances and some almost jazzy but very tight chromatic passages. "I'm wrong about this guy, how could I do this?" I asked myself. Years later I laughed at Glenn Gould with his provocative comments on Mozart and wondered if the coincidence of being driven around Lake Simcoe on cold wintry days by our dads had something to do with cleaving to discovering Beethoven, but unfortunately, I couldn't match GG's skill and artistry to make the suggestion worth presenting!!
Thank you from the bottom of my heart Maestro Perahia for playing so beautifully as to set me free into the incomparable beauty that is Mozart. This music heals the burdened soul and it is from God.

called Mozart's music "Kindliches Gelalle" but i would not hesitate up-lifting "E Suzanna non vien(i)" once to accompagne on piano with Madame Bartoli. Andras Schiff replaced me. GG joked about Mozart: He lived to lo(o)ng.

Freddie Hoogewerf he's the best yet for this wonderful, brilliant concerto. "Coronation" is an apt name for the crowning achievement of this brightest star in the firmament.
