With all that anticipation of the end of the Exposition I was disappointed that we didn't get to hear the repeat (ie C major) but instead got C minor. I wonder what in general goes into deciding whether to do a first movement repeat?

Galileo

The omission of the 1rst mvt repeat is really too bad, indeed, without mentioning that the intonation of two violas remains more than approximative... (OMG) With such a "mainstream" interpretation, this recording is not we could call a gratifying musical experience...

Timothy Thorne

The Exposition isn't repeated in this recording, although I have a recording whereby, in true Classical period fashion, it is repeated. It is unusually long for a Classical period exposition, longer even than those of Beethoven's Eroica Symphony and his Archduke Trio op. 97.

So here the decision is made to segue directly from the exposition to the development, which begins in C minor.

Marcus82

Sometimes it's probably just that they wouldn't have the space to fit several works on 1 CD if they played all the repeats!

Thank you Anthony!
