Born in Salzburg, then in the Holy Roman Empire and currently in Austria, Mozart showed prodigious ability from his earliest childhood. Already competent on keyboard and violin, he composed from the age of five and performed before European royalty. His father took him on a grand tour of Europe and then three trips to Italy. At 17, he was a musician at the Salzburg court but grew restless and traveled in search of a better position.
While visiting Vienna in 1781, Mozart was dismissed from his Salzburg position. He stayed in Vienna, where he achieved fame but little financial security. During his final years there, he composed many of his best-known symphonies, concertos, and operas. His Requiem was largely unfinished by the time of his death at the age of 35, the circumstances of which are uncertain and much mythologized.
Voi che sapete che cosa è amor

Che cosa è amor,
Donne, vedete
S′io l'ho nel cor.
Donne, vedete
S′io l'ho nel cor.
Quello ch'io provo
Vi ridirò,
Capir nol so.
Sento un affetto
Pien di desir,
Ch′ora è diletto,
Ch′ora è martir.
Gelo e poi sento
L'alma avvampar,
E in un momento
Torno a gelar.
Ricerco un bene
Fuori di me,
Non so chi′l tiene,
Non so cos'è.
Sospiro e gemo
Senza voler,
Palpito e tremo
Senza saper.
Non trovo pace
Notte né dì,
Ma pur mi piace
Languir così.
Voi che sapete
Che cosa è amor,
Donne, vedete
S′io l'ho nel cor.
Donne, vedete
S′io l'ho nel cor.
Donne, vedete
S'io l′ho nel cor.
Bravo! Che bella voce! Io non sapea
Che cantaste sì bene.
Oh, in verità
Egli fa tutto ben quello ch′ei fa.
Presto a noi, bel soldato.
Figaro v'informò ...
Tutto mi disse.
Lasciatemi veder. Andrà benissimo!
Siam d′uguale statura ... giù quel manto.
Che fai?
Niente paura.
E se qualcuno entrasse?
Entri, che mal facciamo?
La porta chiuderò.
Ma come poi
Acconciargli i cappelli?
Una mia cuffia
Prendi nel gabinetto.
Presto!
Che carta è quella?
La patente.
Che sollecita gente!
L'ebbi or da Basilio.
Dalla fretta obliato hanno il sigillo.
Il sigillo di che?
Della patente.
Cospetto! Che premura!
Ecco la cuffia.
Spicciati: va bene!
Miserabili noi, se il Conte viene.
The song "Voi che sapete che cosa è amor" is sung by Cherubino in Act II of Mozart's opera The Marriage of Figaro. The lyrics are in Italian and translate to "You ladies who know what love is, see if it's in my heart. What I'm feeling, I'll tell you, but it's new to me, I don't understand it. I feel an affection full of desire, now it's delight, now it's torment. I freeze and then feel my soul on fire, and in a moment, I freeze again. I seek a good outside of myself, I don't know who holds it, I don't know what it is. I sigh and groan without wanting to, I palpitate and tremble without knowing why. I find no peace day or night, but still, I like to languish like this."
The song is a reflection of Cherubino's youthful infatuation with love and his confusion about its complexities. His words are innocent and naive, revealing his lack of experience with love. He is seeking guidance from the women around him, hoping that they can help him understand what it means to love.

She's FABULOUS. I first heard her partnering Sabine... On the flower duet from Lakme. (I also just realized this is what Elizabeth Bennett (J.Ehle) is singing at Mr.Darcy's party at Pemberly in the BBC "Pride & Prejudice"

Yes, fabulous. My favourite mezzo in her best rendition of this piece - so far.
Doubly yes, she and Sabine are perfectly matched in the Delibe. We are sooo lucky.
