He produced deep house until late 2007 under his actual name before switching to his current Wolfgang Gartner moniker.

He began producing electronic music at age 11 by syncing a drum machine to a keyboard via MIDI, and taught himself to DJ at age 12 with a 4-track tape recorder and 2 tape decks.

In 2004 after a year of successful releases, he signed to the San Francisco-based Blue Collar Entertainment agency and began touring.

In 2007, he made the official switch from Joey Youngman to Wolfgang Gartner and began producing electro house, tech house, and techno. Within that year he landed three top-10 singles on Beatport, a Pete Tong “essential new tune of the week” on BBC’s Radio 1, and two video game licenses.

He owns and runs the label Kindergarten, and previous to 2007 ran the labels Fetish Recordings, and Jackin Tracks.

Wolfgang is much more precise in his productions, whereas some of Deadmau5' tracks seem to sound like they're missing a few extra mastering tweaks/extra sounds. To me it seems like Wolfgang puts more effort into his productions. But in terms of overall production talent they're nearly equal

@LanceThackeray I for one definately agree with you, I prefer to stay out of these petty label arguements. Being a Prog/House/Electro producer myself I appreciate the various aspects that both of these artists special. No one producer, produces the same way and techniques can be learnt by listening to all.

Any song or artist can be great, its all just what the listener makes of it via perception; its all relative. In my opinion Wolfgang Gartner and Deadmau5 are equally great in their own ways. I feel personally however that Wolfgang has a greater momentum. But hey thats only a lonely opinion that may, by chance be shared by others.

You couldn't had nailed that better, only thing I would add, is that you might say Deadmau5 sticks to Progressive house, Wolfgang prefers more of the new 'step' to his tunes. Either way no reason to argue about it, could listen to both all day.

@dnbmonster1 simply adjusting the jog wheel or messing with the speed of the track, plus if you have any idea about music you would hear that the tracks are a com-pleat 5th away from each other witch is referring to the circle of fifths (music theory) or a forth down from the previous one, this means you can adjust it once and mesh it with the track next to it with no adjustments to the pitch or anything like that... all you haft to do is simply beat-match,

witch is probably why djs like to play him so much in clubs, because hes easy to mix, i happen to find it quite appealing, plus he uses lots of kick ;), now mau is similar in the sense that he makes track Mix friendly, like the album at play, these tracks attack on the kick is low (so that you can change the pitch and it wont sound out of wack) there are little if not any effects on most of the tracks so you can get creative and mix it the way u wanted to,

@SpHiNxBoNg one of the most epic? lol u must not go to a lot of shows...this weekend i saw laidback luke, boys noize, wolfgang gartner, benny benassi, and afrojack just to name a few (for house, saw plenty of hard electro and dubstep too)...and they ALL blow deadmau5 out of the water, his shows are boring, just all build up the whole show and like maybe a combined 10 minutes of nice drops
