He produced deep house until late 2007 under his actual name before switching to his current Wolfgang Gartner moniker.

He began producing electronic music at age 11 by syncing a drum machine to a keyboard via MIDI, and taught himself to DJ at age 12 with a 4-track tape recorder and 2 tape decks.

In 2004 after a year of successful releases, he signed to the San Francisco-based Blue Collar Entertainment agency and began touring.

In 2007, he made the official switch from Joey Youngman to Wolfgang Gartner and began producing electro house, tech house, and techno. Within that year he landed three top-10 singles on Beatport, a Pete Tong “essential new tune of the week” on BBC’s Radio 1, and two video game licenses.

He owns and runs the label Kindergarten, and previous to 2007 ran the labels Fetish Recordings, and Jackin Tracks.

Wolfgang Gartner is an absolutely amazing producer. The counter melody stuff he incorporates into his music is immaculate, his sound design is innovative and fascinating, and the technical aspects of his production methodology are practically flawless. This guy is a producer's producer. He's the one we all look at and scratch our heads and ask, "How the hell is this guy so damn good?"

I love how he doesn’t stick to the cliche timing in the edits where elements repeat 4 times. He does a lot of 3 times instead of 4 in this track. I don’t have a good way to describe it but those who know what I mean ....well they know. It makes this track extra suprising, basicly...Gartner is the king of Complextro and this song is timeless!

@omsonic It's Electro-House. The distinction needs to be made because there is a genre that was popular in the 1980s already called Electro. Think Afrika Bambaataa, Jonzun Crew etc. The 4/4 house beat sets this genre of Electro-House apart from 1980s Electro. The sound design and technology improved A LOT since the 1980s enabling for greater manipulation of the sound as you can hear in this track.

Hell, deadmau5 has already collabed with Calvin Harris, Dillon Francis, and Kaskade. I don't why he doesn't do any more songs with Wolfgang Gartner. Probably reputation measures?? Sergio Ruiz Well Complextro is a subgenre of Electro House. All Complextro is Electro House but not all Electro House is Complextro.
If you don’t realise that Undertaker and Firepower are Complextro you might want to explore more about Complextro.
These are the first ones I’ve heard but there were people before them like SebastiAn.
Gartner didn’t like the term Complextro even though the person that made up the name (Porter Robinson) said that his music (Complextro at the time) was inspired by Wolfgang Gartner. To me (and many others) Gartner is the pioneer of Complextro.

I personally wasn’t familiar with SebastiAn’s music and the first ‘Complextro’ track I ever heard was Deadmau5’s Ghosts and Stuff (original without the vocals). Then a little while later I discovered Firepower and Undertaker by WG on his myspace and Undertaker was called ‘untitled track’ lol. I heard it when he just uploaded it. I did send him a message thatand told him I’ve heard Q&A tracks before (referring to Ghosts and Stuff) but that his music feels like a meeting where everybody gets to speak. This was the beginning of ‘Complextro’ in my mind but with these type of things it’s always hard to prove which song or which artist was first because everybody inspires everybody. I think Deadmau5 was the first (that I know) using the ‘in and out’ technique but Wolfgang took it to the next level and build a genre out of it. In my opinion Gartner is the inventor Complextro in the form it took but that’s just my opinion. Ironic thing is that WG once said in an interview that he hates the term Complextro and that’s it’s just crazy or ‘complex’ Electro House in his opinion. But I personally like the term Complextro because people will instantly know what you’re talking about. Hope that it will become big one day because imo it never got the shine it deserves.

Porter actually came up with the term Complextro. He said his inspiration was Wolfgang Gartner (imo Wolfgang was like the king and one of the first to do it). The ironic thing is that Wolfgang said in an interview that he hates the term Complextro and feels like it’s just Electro House. But in an earlier interview he describes his music as crazy COMPLEX Electro House. SebastiAn was one of the first to do it but “Deadmau5 - Ghosts and Stuff” was the first one I noticed. Right after that I discoverd “Wolfgang Gartner - Firepower” and “Wolfgang Gartner - Undertaker” (“Undertaker” was still called “untitled track” on his MySpace at that time lol). After that I discoverd people like Porter Robinson, Mord Fustang, Felguk, Lazy Rich, Skrillex (yes he made complextro too), Feed Me, Zedd, Al Bizzare, Dirty Loud, Alex Mind, Darth & Vader, Ftampa, Overwerk, Madeon, James Egbert, Far Too Loud, Ryan Enzed, Uppermost, Schoolboy, Virtual Riot, the S, the Noisy Freaks, PrototypeRaptor, Speaker of the House, Anzo, Savant, SirensCeol, Wildpuppet, Megastrom..etc ..etc.....(just to name a ‘few’).

@Tyrptamine There's actually a lot in common if you know a lot about producing. 1-They both use acoustic percussion samples (meaning recoridings of real drums and claps) instead of completely electronically produced sounds, 2-They sidechain A LOT, 3- A lot of their synths sound the same (saws everywhere), 4- Their filters often sound the same, 5- Their way of minimizing repetitiveness by quick short loops. But I agree, a lot of it is different.
