Diadem of 12 Stars
Wolves in the Throne Room Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Bathes me in silver starlight
I will lead this beast on a chain of flowers
Fear not the jaws that devour soul
Between two pillars I have sat
Great oxen in the periphery
I ride in full course swift
You are a daughter of heaven
12 stars circle your brow
But you do not see them and the rain pours down
Our time in this garden is past
The opening lines of the song Diadem of 12 Stars by Wolves in the Throne Room present a unique perspective of strength, one that is rooted in contemplation. The contemplation is followed by the imagery of silver starlight that leads the singer to declare that he will lead the beast on a chain of flowers, which showcases a certain level of fearlessness despite the jaws that can devour a soul. The singer seems to be at peace with his surroundings despite the potential danger that lurks.
As the song progresses, the singer talks about sitting between two pillars and great oxen, where he's riding on a full course through the dark night. The rain pours down, adding to the powerful emotions the song carries. The song concludes with the singer talking to the daughter of heaven, telling her that 12 stars circle her brow, despite her inability to see them. The powerful imagery, as well as the line "our time in this garden is past," seems to suggest the passing of an era, whether human or celestial, is coming to a close.

Fun fact: I love this album but I rarely listened to it entirely...'cause I suffer from anxiety and I use it to fall asleep when anything else fails. I usually sleep before the third song. I love the athmosphere, nothing can relax me more and bring me in my dream world away from the nightmare of normale reality.

I suffer from anxiety and depression. Although I don't use this to sleep, when I do have an anxiety attack, I play this album at full volume and it really calms me. Solidarity.

I have been listening to black metal for a decade now and I am finally coming around to listening to WITTR and I have truly been missing out. Now I must get your albums on CD and cherish them.

The winding riffs at 58:30 leading up to the siren song at 59:10 is one of my favourite moments in Black Metal. Magical.

This album holds such a dear place in my heart. (A Shimmering Radiance) Diadem of 12 Stars, especially holds a spot. It takes me back to my youth in a almost surreal nature. Thank you for your music!
