Jesus Christ
Woody Guthrie Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Jesus Christ was a man that traveled through the land
Hard working man and brave
He said to the rich, "Give your goods to the poor"
So they laid Jesus Christ in His grave
Yes, Jesus was a man, a carpenter by hand
His followers true and brave
One dirty coward called Judas Iscariot
Laid poor Jesus in His grave

He went to the preacher, He went to the sheriff
Told them all the same
"Sell all of your jewelry and give it to the poor"
So they laid Jesus Christ in His grave

When Jesus come to town, all the working folks around
Believed what he did say
The bankers and the preachers, they nailed Him on the cross
And they laid Jesus Christ in his grave

And the working people followed him around
Singing and shouting gay
But the cops and soldiers nailed him in the air
And they laid Jesus Christ in his grave

Well the people held their breath when they heard about his death
Everybody wondered why
It was the landlord and the soldiers that they hired
To nail Jesus Christ in the sky

This song was made in New York City
Of rich man and preachers, and slaves
If Jesus was to preach like He preached in Galillee
They would lay Jesus Christ in His grave

Yes, Jesus was a man and a carpenter by hand
His followers true and brave
One dirty coward called Judas Iscariot
As laid poor Jesus in His grave

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Woody Guthrie and Will Geer's song "Jesus Christ" depict Jesus as a hard-working and brave man who traveled through the land preaching to the poor and calling on the rich and powerful to give their wealth to those in need. The lyrics also describe how Jesus was betrayed by one of his followers, Judas Iscariot, and how the bankers and preachers, threatened by his teachings, had him crucified. The song portrays Jesus as a champion of the working class and a martyr for their cause.

The lyrics of "Jesus Christ" reflect Guthrie's socialist and humanist beliefs. Guthrie saw Jesus as a symbol of hope for the poor and oppressed, and the song is a passionate critique of the wealthy and powerful who exploit the poor and vulnerable. The song's uncompromising message and its passionate delivery by Guthrie and Geer made it an anthem of the American left in the 1940s and 50s.

Nsquared 2586 I think the guys point is that the Romans made an idol out of Jesus and the saints to destroy what Jesus was preaching .
Jesus’s fundamental teachings have nothing to do with his divinity.
Jesus never said he was the son of God.
Jesus said he was the Son of Man, chosen by God to tell us we are all His children equally .
That the rich exist because of the poor.

If you read the Old Testament it follows this exact theme , but the social science have been long in development .

If you notice all churches today teach the teachers of Paul, and what Paul says about Jesus , and what paul says we should do to WORSHIP Jesus .

This is absolute blasphemy on the part of Paul and the foundational corruption of Jesus’s core message to be better fit for rich capitalists , Pharisees , bankers and generally greedy people to be evil their entire life and repent at the last moment .

LYRICS:

A hard-working man and brave

He told them all the same
"Sell all of your jewelry and give it to the poor,"
And they laid Jesus Christ in His grave.

When Jesus come to town, all the working folks around
Believed what he did say
But the bankers and the preachers, they nailed Him on the cross,
And they laid Jesus Christ in his grave.

Everybody wondered why

NorthernCultureWarrior as a Christian:

Christian ''communism'' is totally voluntary. No one says, "Give us what is yours, it belongs to us," rather, Christians themselves sacrificed so that "none of them considered any of their possessions to be their own."

On the other hand, God himself created the nations, condemns LGBT as sinful (what doesn't mean we don't have to peacefully approach them willing to stop their suffering).

Moreover, Christianism emphasizes spiritual education, an issue that, as every single variant of economical determinism, communism and socialism aim to infantilize and neutralize.

Is only in its political propaganda that communism claims it is attaining the realization of freedom, brotherhood, etc, which of course encompasses an enormous contradiction, for those lofty principles cannot be attained throughout division and pre-set enemies and pre-set victims.

Not only that, but libtards and commies here are trying to, so to speak appropriate the figure and/or principles that Jesus embodied, but at the same time glorifying sins and legalising abortion which has already being killing more than 30 million babies per year, blaspheming, or just ranting hatefully.

I'm not even going to speak about the prosecution orthodox and Catholic christians suffered whenever a commie came into power, and how many churchs and cathedrals were destroyed.

But I still love you.
