Beauty and the Beast
World Sketch Lyrics

Ever just the same
Ever a surprise

Tale as old as time
True as it can be
Barely even friends
Then somebody bends
Unexpectedly

Just a little change
Small, to say the least
Both a little scared
Neither one prepared
Beauty and the Beast

Ever just the same
Ever a surprise
Ever as before
Ever just as sure
As the sun will rise

Ever just the same
Ever a surprise
Ever as before
Ever just as sure
As the sun will rise

Ever just the same
Ever a surprise
Ever as before
Ever just as sure
As the sun will rise

Ever just the same
Ever a surprise
Ever as before
Ever just as sure
As the sun will rise

Tale as old as time
Tune as old as song
Bittersweet and strange
Finding you can change
Learning you were wrong

Certain as the sun
Certain as the sun
Rising in the east
Tale as old as time
Song as old as rhyme
Beauty and the beast

Ever just the same
Ever a surprise
Ever as before
Ever just as sure
As the sun will rise

Ever just the same
Ever a surprise
Ever as before
Ever just as sure
As the sun will rise

Ever just the same
Ever a surprise

Overall Meaning

"Beauty and the Beast" is a classic love song that describes the relationship between two seemingly incompatible individuals. The opening lines emphasize that despite the differences, the two are constantly surprised by each other’s actions - "Ever just the same, Ever a surprise." The song describes their unlikely romance as a "Tale as old as time," one that is true and enduring. Despite initially being "barely even friends," the two find themselves attracted to each other, and as the song says, "Then somebody bends, Unexpectedly."

The two individuals, initially frightened and unprepared for this new relationship, slowly realize that what they have is real and worth taking a risk for. The song also touches on the idea that even though they are different, to the world they are seen as a "Beauty and the Beast." The lyrics further emphasize that love has a transformative power, where the two can change and learn from each other, finding that they were wrong about their initial perceptions. The song concludes with the idea of certainty, comparing their love to the "sun rising in the east."

Normally I would be insulted by the phrase "welcome to 'xyz'" since only insufferable assholes use that phrase.
However, our first child, an unexpected pandemikid, is due this month so I will say "thank you." I really am entering parenthood for the first time.

...
I was 16 when Shrek came out. With its all-star cast and pop music soundtrack I know it wasnt just meant for babies.

My parents, two huge theater/literature/cinema nerds, never showed me garbage (like most of Disney's catalogue).
I too will not show my child Shrek but will instead show them well made entertainment.

Kristen's high pitched Disney voice is on point.

Ashley Ashbee

😂 And I love that her voice becomes normal Kristen after he tells her he can't wait for her transformation.

@Ashley Ashbee yep. It's like how young women try to present themselves a certain way for the first couple of months of a relationship so the guy will like them. When women are older we don't give a damn. Like us for who we are. Older women don't buy the fairy tale. 😄

@Beatrice T that's because older women are bitter that life ain't work out

@T A For some not all. A content women has evolved therefore they have learned to love thyself. For when you love yourself with all your flaws you won't put up with chaos, nonsense, drama, etc...Fairy tales are for girls and reality is for women. A grown women protects their inner peace. Although, to cultivate that peace takes trial and error.
