I heard a whisper
I feel the silent breath of a hidden folk
Mother forest your life
Seems so asleep in the mist
Of your green embrace
In the tender dawn
And the falcon spreads it's wings
To the awakening sun
There's immediate life between the leaves
Shining of dew
Here I'm lying waiting for a sign
Still in the daylight
He stands so proud
The king of deers
Is ready for the fight
For the fight...
The lyrics of Wotan's song "Mother Forest" depict a deep sense of reverence and awe towards nature. The first few lines reveal the singer's ability to hear the whispers of the forest and feel the breath of a hidden folk. The forest, referred to as "Mother" is portrayed as alive and sleeping in the mist of her green embrace. The use of the phrase "hidden folk" could be a nod towards Norse mythology where the forest is believed to be populated by elves or possibly even trolls. This could also be a reference to the pagans who worshipped nature and saw spiritual forces in the natural world.
Moving on, the song makes a reference to Beltane, which is a Gaelic May Day festival that marks the beginning of the summer season. The dying fire of Beltane is captured in the tender dawn, and the falcon spreads its wings to welcome the awakening sun. This could be interpreted as a metaphor for the cycle of life and the natural rhythms that exist within the forest. Between the leaves shines of dew, indicating the freshness of the new day. The singer then waits for a sign, indicating his own sense of connection to the forest and the spiritual forces that reside within it.
In the last two lines, the song takes an interesting turn, mentioning a deer who stands proud, ready for the fight. This could be symbolic of the struggle of survival in the forest, and the natural forces that govern all living beings. Overall, the song "Mother Forest" is an ode to nature, its power, and its beauty.
