Pillage
Woven Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Its made to fill the holes
No one can tell us apart
You were oh so different
You thought you came up with all the plans
Dreams of overthrowing God
Turn to mutations
So do I!
Trapped like flies
Pull my wings off
Hidden under the desert sands
Genomic terrain for which they map
Probing for the trademark
We have the need to update
Scientists they know the best
Sculptors schooling creation
So do I
Trapped like flies
Pull my wings off

So do we follow me
Follow me down

Overall Meaning

The first stanza of Woven's song, Pillage, talks about the motivation behind creating something. The line "It's made to fill the holes" suggests that whatever is being created is meant to fulfill a need or void. The next line "No one can tell us apart" indicates that the creator(s) want to be distinct and unique. The following line, "You were oh so different, You thought you came up with all the plans" seems to suggest that the creator(s) are different from others and believe that they are in charge of creating something new - perhaps something revolutionary. The following lines "Dreams of overthrowing God, Turn to mutations" suggest that the creator(s) might have been trying to take on something too powerful for them and ends up causing mutations. The repetition of "So do I" and "Trapped like flies, Pull my wings off" suggest that they are aware of the consequences of their actions, but they continue to do it anyway.

The second stanza seems to suggest that the creator(s) are scientists or at least experimenting with science. The line "Hidden under the desert sands, Genomic terrain for which they map" indicates some sort of exploration or experiment. The line, "Probing for the trademark, We have the need to update" suggests that what they're creating is something that needs to be updated regularly. The next lines "Scientists they know the best, Sculptors schooling creation, So do I, Trapped like flies, Pull my wings off" suggest that the creator(s) recognize the importance of science and are learning how to create something new - perhaps something biological. The repeated "trapped like flies, pull my wings off" suggests that there are consequences to their actions, but they do it anyway. The final line "So do we follow me, Follow me down" seems like an invitation to join in the experiment, or to see where their actions will lead.
