'Hush Little Baby'
Wretch 32 Feat. Ed Sheeran Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I said hush little baby
Don't you cry
I said hush little baby
Don't you cry
No
I said hush little baby
Don't you cry
I'm saying hush little baby
Don't you cry
Daddy ain't sure he can raise you right
I ain't even good with saving my money
Why should I think I could save your life
The whole family's gonna think I'm a devil
Cah I don't want to see my angels eyes
I say this with one hand on my heart
Guilt ain't gonna make me change my mind
My thoughts were my worst thoughts
Running through my head in circles
The world's gonna hate me for saying this
But patience is a virtue
So we don't have to rush
For our first yute
We could take time do rehearsals
And I ain't acting, this is personal
And I ain't doing this just to hurt you

I should say goodbye before I say hello
So darling hold me closely tonight
Cos' if you open your eyes I'll never let you go
Moving slowly we'll both sleep tonight
And I'll be dreaming till you wake me up

When I'm telling her about raving
She's telling me about cravings
I just want her to get the message
I don't want to have to be so blatant
So I told her my life ain't balanced yeah
So the time ain't right
She said God's clocks the only one that matters
And it's about time I tried
And if I listen to my family
Then I'll be a new addition to my family
I can't help feeling peer pressured
Everyone's looking down but
They don't understand me
And everyone's so suggestive
I'm getting mixed messages
But nobody's rang me huh
I ain't saying this is a game
But when I say the wrong thing
Everybody wants to hang me

I should say goodbye before I say hello
So darling hold me closely tonight
Cos' if you open your eyes I'll never let you go
Moving slowly we'll both sleep tonight
And I'll be dreaming till you wake me up

I said hush little baby
Don't you cry
I said hush little baby
Don't you cry
No
I said hush little baby
Don't you cry

I should say goodbye before I say hello
So darling hold me closely tonight
Cos' if you open your eyes I'll never let you go
Moving slowly we'll both sleep tonight
And I'll be dreaming till you wake me up

I should say goodbye before I say hello
So darling hold me closely tonight
Cos' if you open your eyes I'll never let you go

Moving slowly we'll both sleep tonight
And I'll be dreaming till you wake me up

Overall Meaning

The song "Hush Little Baby" by Wretch 32 featuring Ed Sheeran is a heartfelt and emotional song about the struggles of a father who is unsure if he can provide for his child. The chorus, which repeats the line "Hush little baby, don't you cry," is a soothing and reassuring reminder to the child that their father will always be there for them, no matter what challenges lie ahead. The verse lyrics delve deeper into the father's fears and concerns, as he expresses doubt in his ability to raise his child well and provide for them financially. He also worries about the judgment of his family and others who may not understand his struggles.

The second half of the song shifts to a conversation between Wretch and his partner, where they discuss their differing priorities and concerns. While Wretch is focused on his music and career, his partner is more focused on starting a family and settling down. They both express frustration with the pressures they feel from their families and the expectations placed on them by society. The song ends on a hopeful note, with the couple holding each other close and dreaming of a brighter future together.

Overall, "Hush Little Baby" is a poignant and introspective song that explores the complexities of parenthood, relationships, and societal expectations. It encourages listeners to be patient and to prioritize what truly matters in life, whether that be family, career, or personal growth.

This song still hits deep. Lost my mam few years ago and developed a fear of dying and leaving my girls with no dad. Not fully over it but randomly this song brings comfort.

Build for them. Work in decades. Death is coming we are all together in that. We have 24hrs in a day. Let's use ours to build for them. I know your fear, but fear holds us back. Go for it, build for your babies, hush them and I hope they don't cry. I hope our children smile knowing we did out best and they are prepared for the World which left better than when we found it.

It's nice see a song in the eyes of a future father struggling with the idea of becoming a parent. with the added pressure of not having choices like a woman. it's an eye opener.

@tintimtin2756
