Ave Maria
Wynonna Judd's Ave Maria is a song based on the traditional Catholic prayer to the Virgin Mary. The song opens with the repetition of "Ave Maria" which translates to "Hail Mary." The next two lines, "Gratia plena, Maria, gratia plena," mean "full of grace, Mary, full of grace." This line is a reference to the belief that Mary was graced by God to bear Jesus. The third line, "Ave, ave dominus, Dominus tecum," translates to "Hail, hail Lord, the Lord is with thee," and is a greeting to Mary.
The second verse emphasizes the blessedness of Mary with the line, "Benedicta tu in mulieribus," meaning "blessed are you among women." The following line repeats the line from the first verse about Jesus being the fruit of Mary's womb, "et benedictus fructus ventris, ventris tuae, Jesus." The final repetition of "Ave Maria" is repeated with the same lines as the second verse about Mary being blessed and Jesus being the fruit of her womb.
Overall, Wynonna Judd's rendition of Ave Maria is a tribute to the Virgin Mary and the Catholic faith. The use of Latin in the song adds a sense of tradition and reverence to the lyrics.
