Come Some Rainy Day
Wynonna Judd Lyrics

Without your baby sister'
Two scoops of ice cream
On a summer afternoon
We ran wild
And all we ever wanted
Was to rule the world
Between our house and school
We move on
Put those dreams away
Thinking that we'll find them
Come some rainy day
First time I saw you
I knew I would love you
Half way through sophomore year
I finally asked your name
When I kissed you
I lost my heart completely
All we wanted
Was just to stay that way
We move on
Put those dreams away
Hoping that we'll find them
Come some rainy day
How could I know
That everything would change
Except the way I miss you
Come some rainy day
I'll sit and laugh with friends
At what we've all been through
But I still catch my breath
When someone mentions you
We move on
Put those dreams away
Thinking that we'll find them
Come some rainy day
The lyrics to Wynonna Judd's song "Come Some Rainy Day" paint a vivid picture of nostalgia, regret, and longing. The song opens with the question, "What good's a dollar/Without your baby sister?" The first two lines suggest that monetary wealth is meaningless without the love and companionship of family. The next couplet - "Two scoops of ice cream/On a summer afternoon" - transports the listener back to a time of innocent pleasures and carefree days. The following lines - "We ran wild/And all we ever wanted/Was to rule the world/Between our house and school" - evoke a sense of youthful ambition and a longing for autonomy. This stanza sets the stage for the song's overall theme: the loss of innocence and the struggle to reconcile past dreams with present realities.
The second stanza shifts focus and narrates the first encounter between the singer and their love interest. "First time I saw you/I knew I would love you/Half way through sophomore year/I finally asked your name" - these lines have a cinematic quality, as though the listener is watching a coming-of-age film unfold before their eyes. The next lines continue in a similar vein: "When I kissed you/I lost my heart completely/All we wanted/Was just to stay that way." Here the lyrics capture the intensity and vulnerability of first love, and the desire to remain in a state of blissful ignorance.
However, the chorus reminds us that time passes, and dreams are often deferred. "We move on/Put those dreams away/Thinking that we'll find them/Come some rainy day." These lines express a sense of resignation, as though the singer has accepted that certain aspirations will never come to fruition. The bridge offers a moment of reflection: "How could I know/That everything would change/Except the way I miss you/Come some rainy day." Here the lyrics conflate the ephemeral nature of life with the enduring power of love and memory.
Overall, "Come Some Rainy Day" is a poignant and evocative song that speaks to the universal human experience of loss, regret, and longing.
