In The Morning
Wynter Gordon Lyrics

Take me back,
Take me back.

I'm going home alone tonight,
You were with your friends and that's alright,
'Cause they all, hit on me,
When your not looking, huh.
I'm a little sad to see you go,
Can you laugh and now I gets the joke,
Your problem, is tiny,
So it's so funny.

You took a real big chance,
And you gave me up,
I swear I was your friend baby,
I was your love,
And I admit, that I liked you too,
But you needed me, more than I needed you.

It's okay cos you'll be sorry in the morning,
Yeah it's okay cos I already hear you calling,
This is a game, that we play, that you always lose,
Miserably, you'll be begging take me back,
In the morning, in the morning.

Take me back,
Take me back.

Lying in my bed there's so much space,
And you move your things here (in place),
Let the day, sheets pile up,
With the laundry.

And I have done my best to make it work,
Why you try your best to be a jerk,
I deserve, an award,
For my patience.

You took a real big chance,
And you gave me up,
I swear I was your friend baby,
I was your love,
And I admit, that I liked you too,
But you needed me, more than I needed you.

It's okay cos you'll be sorry in the morning,
Yeah it's okay cos I already hear you calling,
This is a game, that we play, that you always lose,

Miserably, you'll be begging take me back,
In the morning, in the morning.

Overall Meaning

The first chorus of Wynter Gordon feat. Robbie Rivera's song "In The Morning" is a sassy reminder that even though the singer is going home alone tonight after her love interest chose to hang out with his friends instead, she's actually okay with it. In fact, she seems almost gleeful about the prospect of him realizing his mistake in the morning and begging for her to take him back. The singer reveals that when they were together, other guys hit on her, but she respected their relationship enough not to act on it. She enjoys that little secret - the idea that her love interest would be jealous if he knew. But now that they're apart, she's laughing at him and his "tiny" problem – presumably some insecurity or flaw that ultimately drove her away.

The second half of "In The Morning" finds the singer lying in bed alone, reflecting on her relationship. She admits that she liked her love interest, but he needed her more than she needed him. She also lashes out at him, calling him a "jerk" and sarcastically giving herself an award for her patience. However, she still holds out hope that they can work things out, since she very pointedly tells him to take her back "in the morning." Overall, the song paints a picture of a confident and self-reliant woman who isn't afraid to stand up for herself and move on from a relationship that no longer serves her.
