KIDS
Wynter Gordon Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I don't know who you are anymore
You're a mystery now and unfamiliar face
You gave up on us all, you lost hope
You're just taking us space
You and your friends have turned to leaches
Begging for money and giving side speeches
You used to be my hero
{Chorus}
When we were just kids, you used to...
To grow up and be, to be somebody
If any got lost you're innocent
And you don't remember where it went
When we were just kids
You loved yourself, you loved yourself
When we were just kids, you loved yourself

We all got hurt we all cried
You are not alone, we all had to survive
I learned to forgive let go of the pain
But you're holding on, holding on to the past
You give guilt trips like no other
Left your kids without their mother
You know you used to be my hero

{Chorus}
When we were just kids, you used to...
To grow up and be, to be somebody
If any got lost you're innocent
And you don't remember where it went
When we were just kids

You loved yourself, you loved yourself
When we were just kids, you loved yourself

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Wynter Gordon's song Kids depict the changing relationship with someone she once admired and looked up to. The opening lines, "I don't know who you are anymore, You're a mystery now and unfamiliar face" describe how the person has become unrecognizable to Gordon, suggesting a significant shift in their life. The line, "You gave up on us all, you lost hope," implies that this person has lost faith in their family and friends, possibly due to personal struggles that have left them feeling defeated.

The chorus is a reminder of the past, "When we were just kids, you used to, To grow up and be, to be somebody." Gordon recalls how they all had dreams and aspirations, and this person was once a role model they looked up to. The lines, "You loved yourself, you loved yourself," suggest that this person has become selfish and self-centered, which is likely the cause of the relationship's breakdown.

In the second verse, Gordon acknowledges the hurt and pain that everyone has suffered but notes that she has learned to forgive and move on. However, the person in question is not taking steps to do the same and is still holding onto the past. The lines, "You give guilt trips like no other, Left your kids without their mother," reveal that this person has become manipulative and irresponsible, causing harm to those around them.

Overall, the song's message is about the disappointment and hurt caused by someone who was once a hero and inspiration. It touches on themes of forgiveness, moving on, and how people can change drastically over time.

Huhhhh (jaw dropping). Downloaded the EP been replaying this track for days. The recording is emaculate a simplistic ballad which throws you around emotionally, it hurts soo good. Then i saw the title "LIVE", truly this version is so much more. Wynter just let her self free and dialed the ballad 11.
