Love watching you guys review cars. Short and sweet but honest and straight forward.
I feel like I'm getting a dealer tour on a car. Yet am not pressured into thinking any sorta way on either.... Plus no pressure sales and car bias.
Could never own a Tesla because I would ruin the interior very quickly haha but maybe with the dark interior.
I like both though and would have little complaints with either.

Samuel Rogalski because they’re probably broken. The soft close on my X5 have failed on 3 of the 4 doors in the last 4 years. All fixed under warranty thankfully.

Yes and I I have an x5 and now hate when people slam the doors in mine, now that I have that option. Just one of those things that once you have it it's in your mind every time, if you're a perfectionist about maintenance / taking care of your sh*t etc. Just don't like my doors slammed

Disclaimer: I really like the BMW brand and I disagree with the complaint which Thomas repeats way too often when he says, “every BMW interior looks the same“, because all of the German luxury brands do this but in those vehicles, it’s looked at as a virtue. Example, when the C-class gets a similar looking and functioning interior as the E or even the S class, its a wonderful thing and The same is true when it happens in a BMW or an Audi.
So all of that said, I have to ask, why was there no mention of the safety rating? Most are probably aware, but it’s worth mentioning given primary function of this category is hauling around the family. Assuming safety would weigh heavily on the decision for most the buyers making this choice, the Tesla offers a massive leap forward in this respect. So much so, that in the event of any serious crash, it would likely be a matter of life or death for at least one member of the family and in some cases, it could be the difference between losing multiple members of your family vs losing none and that is only considering the results of an the actual impact, but the active safety and accident avoidance in Tesla represents another leap forward of almost equal proportion to the aforementioned structural benefit. I’ll leave it there but I think safety has a place in every car review even if it is just a couple minutes at the end for those who want to know.
If you read this far, Thank you for your time and consideration, I offer my humble opinion purely as a little constructive criticism. Lastly, Thank you both for all the great content, I think I have watched and liked virtually every video.

I’ve had a Tesla Model X and although it is a very futuristic car, it really wasn’t worth the price I was paying. I got rid of it 2 years in. The handling, suspension and comfort of the seats were not at all worth the price. It’s a cool car to ride in, but would definitely never purchase it again. I can confidently say that Mercedes benz, BMW, Range Rover, Audi, and Porsche SUV’s are definitely better choices.

The Tesla keeps upping the ante in terms of performance and its really hard to ignore but for me personally, I find the giant screen that does everything to be a bit of an adjustment and prefer a few buttons. I have an X3 and only test driven the Tesla so not sure if that argument really is valid, but i found navigating Tesla's system a bit distracting and lacking the luxury of the BMW

I took a cab driving a Model X to come back from a party. It was right after a big snowstorm and there were big banks of snow making climbing in a car a bit complicated. Those gullwing doors were just so convenient that evening.

Top Gear (UK... is there another) future presenters? Hell, yes--at worst, you couldn't possibly f#ck it up given where it's at right now. At best (my prediction), and in conjunction with possibly the only presenter worth keeping (aka. Chris Harris... and WTF is going on with the endless rotation of presenters and the current picks... ugh, I'm at a loss to explain them or comprehend them and I'm British), you're both genuinely interesting to watch; the gags don't feel forced which is super-critical; the arguments and disagreements aren't contrived... I totally get the conundrum car enthusiast have with electric because of the feel of a nice ICE car. That visceral feel my old AMG E63 wagon was awesome but the loud engine noise amplified by the wagon cabin got a bit warring after 6 months (the newer AMG has a quiet mode). But I had a chance to try a Tesla model X for 2 weeks week and after few days with Auto Pilot 2.0 it was just brought a smile to my face during my commutes. In reality, I’d just get a fun ICE car like my old and sadly sold 1994 300ZX twin turbo and daily drive with kid car seats in some sort of Tesla. Nice video guys!

Nice cars and review. Interesting but I wouldn't want either of these tanks personally. I mainly drive myself or one other and prefer smaller lighter cars. My beloved E92 M3 will likely be my last ICE but I have no desire to trade it off just yet. I can still pack 4 of us comfortably and highly competently on the rare occasions. Low cars are just better than SUVs on the road.

@Steve Mulcahy T3 is going down as a great car, no denying that but it's a one trick pony in terms of a DRIVERS car, that's not a criticism it's just the class of car it isn't. It's a very quick family sedan not a sports car, as a stockholder and concerned about the planet I hope they continue to focus on practicle vehicles, trucks, affordable hatchback (Y), not the roadster so much say. I wouldn't trade my M3 for one at this time, no way the T3 is as engaging and capable across the board, but I'm one of the few who actually cares about such as top of class braking and handling.

When I tested an X, I was happy to see it’s more a big car that can be raised up. Although if you don’t need the room for two or more car seats, the 3 performance should be perfect for you.

In all fariness, when discussing the price of electric vehicles vs ICE vehicles, you should include a discussion on the cost of ownership. Sure, electric vehicles are more expensive than ICE vehicles, and the Model X is more expensive then the BMW X5. But the cost of ownership, especially if you put some milage behind you each year, is actually a real factor when considering an electric vehicle. Even if the model X is the more expensive car, over the course of 3-5 years, it will most likely turn out to be quite a lot cheaper than the BMW X5.

The windshield in the model X alone makes it worth the purchase. If you are taller you can actually see the hanging traffic lights for once. After owing Tesla’s everything else feels like grandfathers old leather chair.

You should mention fuel economy, it is still important (17/22 mpg on the BMW/Model X is 85 e-mpg (someone report 115 e-mpg). I bet you will lose some of your enthusiasm when you have to fill the BMW up on premium fuel. Also, range anxiety is a not a problem with the X (325 miles). Most people don't drive 300 miles in a day, so not sure about your comment needing a Super Charger near your place of work to consider one. Also, the BMW pollutes the air you breath.

@Zephyr RLT Here are many people in the comment section who are saying that they actually owned an Model X or Model S and after a few months they gave it back and bought a BMW 7 Series and they are totally happy with the BMW as it seemes….and you know why ? Build quality, because that’s the main problem of Tesla’s, the build quality is just crap, yes the Model S is faster than the 7 Series and maybe more technological, but that’s where it ends, and that’s just not enough to justify a price of over 100K , at this price point the buyers want perfect build quality and an Nice and luxurious interior, with expensive materials used and that’s where the Tesla is lacking massively, for example in the Tesla you get that strange vegan leather, which maybe is ok in an Model 3 for 50 K but not in an over 100 K luxury sedan, in the BMW 7 Series for example you get exclusive Nappa leather which is very nice and soft and that’s what buyers want at that price point and that’s just one example….that’s the reason why many people are still buying a BMW over a Tesla, because Tesla just lacks behind quality wise but costs the same

@Zephyr RLT What do you mean by technology ? Tesla has autopilot yes, but apart from that it does not have anything more than mercedes and BMW.
Overall, I don't think teslas are safer. Look at the results of the sedans, they are not impressive or better at all. Model 3 is barely better than the old 3 series.
The model X has does have advantage over other SUV, as it has less chance of rollover, but that is where it ends and this is characteristic of all electric cars, not tesla specifically. The actual car is not stronger, results show it.
I am still waiting for EuroNCap to test the model X, so it can be compared to others.

Good, entertaining review but 1. Really should compare latest model to latest model 2. Should compare environmental impact between models. When one car has zero emissions and the other gets 17mpg that is very, very relevant and should be noted. 3. Self driving type capabilities should be compared especially at the price point of these vehicles.

Love how the analysis is on point but the conclusions are contrary.
Model X has the speed and handling and automatic doors killer sound system. But BMW gots noise so that's what I want... just say what you mean guys. I like this car but I'm making up excuses why I didn't like it. So I'm sticking with my gas guzzeling noisemaker.

Im a tesla owner but i can respect an opinion like you got. Some people just want sound when driving as that is what they have grown up being accustomed to and thats totally fair enough. It was a bit weird the first time i got into a tesla when there wasn't any sound so i can see how the opposite can also be true.
After all it really just takes a few drives until you are used to either sound or no sound type of driving

When i heard you guys say a X5 50i is matched on price with the cheapest Model X it just blows my mind. Here in Australia we get ripped off so hard by the German's. The cheapest Model X is around $140K but the X5 M50d (We dont have the X5 50i here) is $168k. Usually the X5 M when it does come comes around the $220-250k while the top of the range Model X is around $190k.

In canada and the US im guessing for you guys, the model x performance comes out as much more expensive than even an X5 M?

It will cost you $5,000 to replace just one of the laser headlight covers on the BMW X5 if you crack one. My neighbor had a piece of debris strike his on the highway and crack one. The back taillight covers cost $800 each.

One suggestion, if you guys are going to compare a new model car to an older car, you need to make it more clear other than just a few seconds in the beginning of the video. Many people skip the beginnings of videos because of ads and stuff, so I suspect quite a few people watching this video won't even realize that you are testing an older Model X.

It's funny how in most countries it's illegal to use your phone while driving, but then it's completely fine to use a ridiculously large touch screen while driving, which is essentially the same thing. It's with no doubt a safety hazard.

Yep you're right, there is no much difference. But using your phone to talk is one thing, you're still watching the road, but using it to send messages or to use social networks or something like that, that's dangerous as it comes.

As an owner of a model 3, I’d take the X. Having previously owned a 328i, filling it with premium fuel every 8 days or so hurt the pocket book and the environment. In an EV, I spend less overall and feel like I’m sending a message with my kids about choices that affect our future.

BTW, needing to have a supercharger ‘in the neighbourhood’ should have no impact on the decision to get a Tesla. Even with a daily commute of 400 km, you can still fully recharge overnight at home. Getting past range anxiety isn’t as hard as it may seem.

I think the guys forgot to mention autopilot, which is outstanding for long commutes and traffic, and potential full self driving on city roads. X5 is a dinosaur. Tesla does, however, should invest a little,ore into cabin quality, when you pay over 100k. I expect redesigned model x to get around 600 miles per charge as a top trim.

There is no substitute for how amazingly smooth the acceleration and the entire driving experience is in the Tesla. My 911 Turbo feels like a farm tractor, every time I use it after driving my Model S P90D. Once you get used to at home overnight charging and leave home with a 200 plus mile range every morning, you don't want to visit a gas station ever again. The post warranty repair cost of the BMW and the fuel cost will surpass the initial investment in the Tesla.

For weekend fun, a model T will do. Performance of Tesla's Auto-steer and adaptive cruise which you ignored in this review is hard to live without once you have experienced it.
