Slow
X-ACTO \ IGNITE Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I thought...
There was a bond
I sure learned I couldn't have
Been more wrong
You're looking out for number one
Now you're not the only one

there's direction (slow)
There's no objective (slow)
Take it slow

I thought...
That blood was thick
I sure got a better look standing in it
You sure hit hard
Next time I'll be on my guard

there's direction (slow)
There's no objective (slow)
Take it slow
Slow

there's affection (slow)
There's no protection (slow)
Take it slow

nothing's... sacred

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to "Slow" by X-ACTO \ IGNITE seem to be about the betrayal of trust, disillusionment, and the need for caution when dealing with people who may prioritize their own interests over relationships. The singer initially believed that there was a strong bond between himself and the person he is addressing, but he has now realized that he was wrong. The other person is only looking out for themselves, and the singer feels a sense of disappointment and betrayal.

The second verse expands on this theme, with the singer referencing the idea that blood is thicker than water, implying that there is a family connection between them. However, he is now seeing the situation more clearly and acknowledging that the other person dealt him a hard blow. The final lines of the verse suggest that the singer is now wiser and more guarded.

The chorus is repeated throughout the song and seems to advise caution and patience in the face of difficult situations. "There's direction (slow) / There's no objective (slow) / Take it slow" suggests that the singer recognizes that there may be a path forward, but that it will require careful consideration and may not have a clear goal. "There's affection (slow) / There's no protection (slow) / Take it slow" suggests that the singer still feels some emotional attachment to the other person, but that this cannot be relied upon to provide a protective shield.

Overall, the lyrics suggest a sense of hurt and disillusionment, but also a recognition that there may be a way forward if approached with caution and care.

Nice to hear some of the Joe Nelson version of Ignite. What's interesting about Ignite is that Nelson, Johnson, and Teglas have different voices but they kind of fit.
