Mother
X Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

My mother knows that I've been Through a lot
She says I'm lost and I can't tell her if it's true or not
She lost her brother to the streets he never knew the block
Family pictures torn apart we know the glue has gone
l left home I don't know when I'll be coming back
Running man I made a blueprint it's a stunning plan
I should be sticking to the script but what's the fun in that
Someone else inside the mirrors who's son is that
I got a blunt inside my hand I'm in the boulevard
All the things I put together start to pull apart
Getting sick of driving ford I need a newer car
A new accord
Swimming in my fears I'm tryna find the bluer shores
I wonder who id be if I had fewer flaws
There's a man in my reflection I just wish I knew him more
Families torn apart broken hearts and broken marriages
I grew up in a place around the savages and scavengers
Life is a just race there's no time to a passenger
You could die any day so tell me how precious is a calendar
Alcoholic fiends in the streets so damaging
I had dreams of moving overseas just to manage it
Most of my friends stayed still they're all mannequins
My mother knows that I've been Through a lot
She says I'm lost and I can't tell her if it's true or not
She lost her brother to the streets he never knew the block
Family pictures torn apart we know the glue has gone
l left home I don't know when I'll be coming back
Running man I made a blueprint it's a stunning plan
I should be sticking to the script but what's the fun in that
Someone else inside the mirrors who's son is that
Told my mother that I love her I'm in need of a fountain
Holy water from Heavens feet of the founder
darkest of the nights what I seen was astounding
Walk into the shadow of the scene he's surrounded
Where are all the people that he needed around him
Root of all his problems he's the seed of the doubting
Searching for the love in the trees never found it
My mother knows that I've been Through a lot
She says I'm lost and I can't tell her if it's true or not
She lost her brother to the streets he never knew the block
Family pictures torn apart we know the glue has gone
l left home I don't know when I'll be coming back
Running man I made a blueprint it's a stunning plan

I should be sticking to the script but what's the fun in that
Someone else inside the mirrors who's son is that

Overall Meaning

X's song "Mother" is a poignant and introspective look at the complex and often fraught relationship between a child and their mother. The song's lyrics are filled with rich imagery and thought-provoking ideas, exploring themes such as obedience, respect, love, and resentment.

The opening lines of the song, "The word you learn to love / The disapproval that you hate / That's Mother from Mother," set the tone for the rest of the lyrics. X is acknowledging the paradoxical nature of the mother-child relationship: the child learns to love their mother, but at the same time, they may resent the disapproval and restrictions she places on them. The line "They teach you to respect... Makes you always want to please Mother" highlights the way that societal expectations and cultural norms often enforce a particular view of motherhood, encouraging children to place their mother's needs and desires above their own.

As the song progresses, X delves deeper into the complicated emotional landscape of the mother-child dynamic. He describes the mother as someone who "keeps you warm" and "shelters you from harm," yet also warns that "she'll stunt your mind" and "emulate[d]" until you become a reflection of her own personality. The lines "She'll twist the words you speak / She'll kiss and say goodbye / If she thinks you're near escape / If you want to go away" make it clear that the mother's love and protectiveness can also turn into a kind of manipulation and control.

The final lines of the song, "The thing you grow to hate / The love you won't forget," encapsulate the complex mix of emotions that many people feel about their mothers. While the mother may represent a source of frustration, disappointment, or anger, she also embodies love, warmth, and security.

Downstairs I don't know Downstairs I don't know If it's the springs in her bed Why I feel safe in my bed Or her joints I hear When I know I'm alone Creaking overhead She must be watching overhead Mother Mother
Even when physically apart from their mother, the sense of security and protection may still be present, almost as if she is watching over you.

She'll twist the words you speak She'll kiss and say goodbye If she thinks you're near escape If you want to go away Mother Mother
Mothers may manipulate and guilt-trip their children to keep them close and prevent them from leaving or breaking away from their influence.

So she clutches at her brood So she gathers up her brood And sits across its face And smiles into their face She sucks up all its energy She beams down vital energy And smothers their last breath She gave us out first breath Oh Mother Mother
Despite potentially suffocating their children, mothers also provide life and vital energy, while also holding a powerful emotional influence over them.

The thing you grow to hate The love you won't forget
Mothers can inspire both negative feelings of resentment and positive feelings of deep, lasting love.

X had a close eye and a great understanding of the current culture and what shook people online around those times of 2014-2016 when he needed attention for his career to take off. He basically represented the Worldstarhiphop and Vine culture to which he added contradiction with his softer emotional music.

I personally believe he had been studying the game for a while with the intention to attain legendary status, becoming the Tupac of his generation. You can see this intention in the way he talked and wanted to bring people together. His strength was to pick his intention and fully commit to it, to never break.

X did not believe in growing old he knew that if he were to attain that status he would have to die. He had these thoughts for a while and he finally decided that this life did not have any type of meaning so might as well make something out of it while young. So he decided to commit to this intention and that is how you hear him so many times talking about how he wouldn't live past 21. He stayed true to his intention and didn't puss out when the time came.

He sacrificed himself in the name of art, in the name of the "I don't give a fuck" energy, because he didn't see any purpose in life. And in the end if he might have found wealth and success and possibly a more peaceful position in life, he knew that at this point he could either become a legend by dying or grow older and eventually become irrelevant as the years pass.

In those years there was also great fascination for Kurt Cobain, suicide and twisted minds like Charles Manson. This was the culture, this was what people wanted to see. This is how you had attention back then. This how the youth felt. The energy was really careless and wicked. Get fucked up, get money, die young.

the date 18 June 2018 or 06/18/18 is to read like so: 6, 18th hour of the day (6), 18th hour of the day (6). Or 6, 6, 6.
He might have picked that date. It is pretty evident that he had an obsession with the devil (which was heavily part of the culture in those years).

It has made a lot of sense to me for many years that X is an artist and this is the art he decided to deliver to the world.

I had the exact same experience as Cleopatra when my brother passed away at 18

Not long after he passed away, I was watching one of his favorite movie (at the time) and as i was watching it my lights started

flicking rapidly. It flickered for about 20 minutes to half an hour maybe and then out of all the times it could of turned off, the SECOND i entered my

room through my doorway the light bulb popped and turned off completely with just me in the dark. I walked out of course, but thinking back, i

realize it was probably him, as i was watching his favorite movie.

I remember the energy was so strong that i just knew there was a spirit in there like I even started talking. It was the one and only time my lights have

ever done that ever, all whilst watching his favorite movie not long after his passing

I also had many dream visitations from him, where in the dream his energy feels exactly the same as though he were right in front of me. It was more

than a dream. it felt real

He was about to turn 19 (2018, same year as x (4 months earlier, almost

same age,--------born, 3rd month and 30th), and his personality even reminded me a lot of x in so many ways mixed with my own personality of the spiritual side and intellectual side,

and his the reckless side)

@BeforeThisNovember

I’m a 33.

My whole life when I was younger EVERY adult always said “you’re gonna go far in life”. My school had predicted me straight A*’s in every single class.

I was the favourite grandchild (2 grandparents even admitted that to me, wtf I know lol..) All my friends parents said I was special. I was super popular in school (in my younger years). I’m talking where kids would literally FIGHT each other to sit next to me. I’d always have the best girls in the school as girlfriends - I got invited to kids birthday parties I didn’t even know.

I’m not bragging or trying to look cool - because this doesn’t have a happy ending.

Despite all of that, I always had this overwhelming sense in me that I wasn’t gonna be shit. That nobody really knew what they were talking about.

Anyway, I ended up getting an emotionally abusive step dad and I also got into weed quite young (about 14) and both of these things shattered my confidence.

I sit here now as an introvert (I’ve gotten a lot better these past couple years, actually), late 20’s, with no career, only 2 friends, and I havn’t even had a girlfriend since before Covid.

Idk if I believe this Numerology thing, but when I looked up my numbers, they did describe me to a T.

“Make sure you are being healthy in mind, being caring, compromising for the ones you love, being loyal to the ones you love. If you love someone you’re supposed to be dedicated to them, right?”

Don’t let this distract you from the fact that Cleopatra was the only person I knew were her son was on the day of shooting. Please note that the fact that as soon as he passed away. she silenced all the family members and kept them in the dark, including his father and his sister. Let’s also put in the fact that she hasn’t been doing nothing to prolong this longevity of her son it’s legacy she let it get tarnished by putting degenerate rappers all over his music, she doesn’t speak up about anything going on in the world. She turned off her comments because she knows that the truth is for her. She knows everything is written in the stars. She scared of the karma she’s gonna have to face. She also follows Drake and all his entourage on Instagram, and all the rest of their socials. She’s friends with everybody that XXXTENTACION was making sure to distance himself from she has silence many whistleblowers, and she’s painting a narrative that she was cool with her son before he died. They were super tight. They werent jah was at appoint in his life where he didn’t allow manipulation from anyone including his mom. He loved her, but he didn’t allow her to manipulate him, she resent to him. She believes she was right to what he has done in the world because she gave birth. Forget again she follows Drake on Instagram knowing damn well that was your son‘s nemesis and he still making this about your son till this day he flaunts about your sons murder and all his songs and you have the nerve to follow him knowing the rumors and conspiracies even the thought of him being related to your son’s murder should inclined you to stay away but you don’t you actually got with one of their OVO members and dated him His name was Mr. rugs. His live within all his fans, all his true friends fans and family he’s giving us the ability to see energy and you can see in this interview she was holding back so much she was lying a lot. Her frequency kept distorting. You can see it for those who know you know if you know, you know, this woman is no good. Look what she did to XXXTENTACION’s father she’s disgusting. She has a nerve to just flaunt his wealth and silence and community that he created by turning off the comments and her Instagram and social medias that censorship go to hell Cleopatra
