Counterfeit
XDisciplex A.D. Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The lyrics of XDisciplex A.D.'s song "Counterfeit" is a critical commentary on the human tendency to live their lives in a superficial way, without understanding the true value of life. The song portrays a person who works hard every day with the intention to do what is right, yet realizes that their existence is meaningless and futile. The chorus of the song challenges the person's perception of their life, as they are living a counterfeit life, and their efforts of wanting something more are all in vain.
The song speaks about how we all get caught up in the race of life and forget the real reason for our existence. The mundane tasks we perform every day to secure our future become the sole purpose of our lives. We lose sight of the simple things that bring us joy and become numb to the emotions that make us human. The song ends by questioning the person's approach to love, suggesting that their affection too might be nothing but an imitation.
