The infamous Lake Effect Hardcore scene of Erie, PA spawns one of the most refreshing bands to hit the scene, xDISCIPLEx A.D. (Formally known as xDISCIPLEx). Their brand of hardcore combines powerful guitars, gritty vocals, and brutal breakdowns all with a positive Christian/straightedge message.
Even in your home xDISCIPLEx A.D. will have you starting a pit, moshing your friends, brothers and sisters into the ground. Formed in 1995, by the brothers Quiggle, Dan on vocals and Dave on guitar the band made a quick impact on PAHC scene with its brutal live show. After a few short months they released the Lantern EP on Ole Crow Records, which was later reissued by SA Mob Records. The band went out on their first national tour with Strongarm, which was capped off with an appearanceat The Cornerstone Festival. More touring followed by the release of the 7"/EP Scarab, and appearances on numerous compilations firmly established xDISCIPLEx A.D. as one of these best new bands on the scene. Now it was time to unleash their debut album.
In1998 the full length ‚Imitation Of Love‘ was released on Goodfellow Records. Once again the band was back on the road across the country, this time with San Diego’s powerhouse No Innocent Victim. 1999 saw the release of the ep No Blood No Altar Now, again released onGoddfellow and their first European release on Goodlife. The band was now playing with a wide variety of groups from Hatebreed, H2O, Downset to N.I.V. and Figure Four. Shortly after signing to Triple Crown Records in early 2000, xDISCIPLEx A.D. embarked on their first European tour with Erie counterparts Shockwave. Upon returning home the band headed in the studio for their next full length. The band chose to record at Big Blue Meanie Studios with Jason Kanter & Tim Gilles (Madball, Agnostic Front) overseeing production.

Trial By Fire
XDisciplex A.D. Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The lyrics to XDisciplex A.D.'s song "Trial by Fire" can be interpreted as a warning against the dangers of pride and anger. The opening line "Through pride's eyes I see your downfall coming quick" suggests that the singer is witnessing the downfall of someone who is blinded by their own pride. The reference to "anger's fire" implies that the singer has also experienced the destructive power of anger, and that this anger has caused them to act in ways that have harmed them ("the knife in my back still remains").
The lines "commandments tie my hands back only when my spirit obeys I'm free" suggest that the singer is struggling to reconcile their own moral code with the desire for vengeance against their perceived enemy. They feel as though their hands are tied by the rules they live by, but also recognize that only by following these rules can they find true freedom. However, the presence of "demon pride" threatens to derail this pursuit of righteousness, as it creates a desire to bring others down ("inventing rights to brink me down to breaking you down").
The repeated refrain of "trial by fire" suggests that the singer feels as though they are being tested, and that this test is one of endurance and patience. The final line, "your house is burning down," could be interpreted as a warning to others to avoid the pitfalls of pride and anger, lest they suffer a similar fate.
