That's the Way Love Is
Xavier Naidoo Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
And live and love each other forever.
They promise to love a lifetime
Funny thing
Then they change their minds.
They both go their seperate ways
And love is just a memory.
But a young heart doesn't stay sad long
That's the way love is
That's the way love is
That's the way love is
That's the way love is
Two people don't get along
Deep down in both have feelings very strong
They try hard to conceal it.
Their hearts burn 'cause they both know they can feel it.
That's the way love is
That's the way love is
That's the way love is
That's the way love is
Lovers leave without a reason
Feelings change just like seasons.
In love nothing's for certain
There's no use in pretending what's behind the curtain.
That's the way love is
That's the way love is
That's the way love is
That's the way love is
And sometimes it's so unfair
when the feeling's no longer there.
That's the way love is
And sometimes it's gratifying
Love's feeling just ain't no denying.
That's the way love is
That's the way love is
That's the way love is
That's the way love is
It's just the way love is
In the song "That's the Way Love Is" by Xavier Naidoo, the lyrics describe the ups and downs of love in various scenarios. The song begins by talking about two people who vow to be together forever, but then eventually fall out of love and part ways. The singer then describes how another love often comes along and helps to heal the heartache. The chorus repeats the title phrase "That's the way love is," indicating that love can be unpredictable and often doesn't go as planned.
Moving forward, the song shifts to another perspective where two people have strong feelings for each other but try to hide it. They both feel the burn of unrequited love, but continue to conceal their feelings. The chorus repeats again, emphasizing how love can be complicated and people often struggle to express it.
Later in the song, the singer acknowledges that love can be unfair and fickle at times. Some lovers leave without explanation and feelings can change like seasons. The last lines of the song state that "It's just the way love is," implying that even with all its complexities and uncertainties, love is still worth it.
