I Want You
Ximena Sariñana Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴
The lonesome organ grinder cries,
The silver saxophones say I should refuse you.
The cracked bells and washed-out horns
Blow into my face with scorn,
But it's not that way,
I wasn't born to lose you.
I want you, I want you,
Honey, I want you.
The drunken politician leaps
Upon the street where mothers weep
And the saviors who are fast asleep,
They wait for you.
And I wait for them to interrupt
Me drinkin' from my broken cup
And ask me to
Open up the gate for you.
I want you, I want you,
I want you so bad,
Honey, I want you.
Now all my fathers, they've gone down
True love they've been without it.
But all their daughters put me down
'Cause I don't think about it.
Well, I return to the Queen of Spades
And talk with my chambermaid.
She knows that I'm not afraid
To look at her.
She is good to me
And there's nothing she doesn't see.
She knows where I'd like to be
But it doesn't matter.
I want you, I want you,
I want you so bad,
Honey, I want you.
Now your dancing child with his Chinese suit,
He spoke to me, I took his flute.
No, I wasn't very cute to him,
Was I?
But I did it, though, because he lied
Because he took you for a ride
And because time was on his side
And because I
I want you, I want you,
I want you so bad,
Honey, I want you.
In "I Want You" by Ximena Sariñana, the lyrics convey a longing desire for someone, represented by the repeated refrain "I want you." The song invokes a variety of images and metaphors to express this intense longing.
The opening lines introduce a somber atmosphere, with the "guilty undertaker" sighing and the "lonesome organ grinder" crying. The "silver saxophones" suggest an air of sophistication and advisement, cautioning against pursuing this person. However, despite the discouragement from the cracked bells and washed-out horns, the singer insists that they were not meant to lose this person and hence, the desire to have them persists.
The second verse presents a contrast between the political chaos and the singer's personal longing. The "drunken politician" leaps upon the street where mothers weep, symbolizing the turmoil in society. The "saviors" who are fast asleep represent those who should be offering solutions but are oblivious to the world's problems. In this chaotic world, the singer waits for them to interrupt their own pursuits and focus on the gate, implying the person they desire. This desire remains despite the broken cup, representing the singer's own emotional vulnerability.
The third verse explores the inability of the singer to fit into societal norms when it comes to love. They mention how all their fathers have experienced love without them, highlighting their perceived exclusion from this experience. Additionally, the daughters of these fathers put the singer down because they do not conform to societal expectations of desiring romantic love. This highlights the singer's individuality and unwillingness to conform.
In the final verse, the singer turns to the "Queen of Spades" and their chambermaid, seeking solace and understanding. The chambermaid is portrayed as someone who knows the singer deeply, seeing everything about them. The singer is unafraid to express their desires to the chambermaid, even if it seems inconsequential. The mention of the dancing child with a Chinese suit implies a previous deception or betrayal, as the singer took the child's flute, implying a sense of retribution. Despite not being "cute" or pleasant to the child, the singer still pursued the desire for the person they long for, acknowledging that time was on the side of the deceptive individual. This again emphasizes the intensity of the singer's longing and desire.
Overall, "I Want You" by Ximena Sariñana paints a vivid picture of intense desire and longing for someone, using various metaphors to convey the deep emotional state of the singer. The lyrics depict a world filled with turmoil and societal expectations, but the singer's unwavering desire for this person remains despite the challenges and obstacles they face.

While I'm typically only a fan of Dylan's versions, this is pretty fucking good. Excuse my language, it's the only way to express how I feel about it.
Ben Lee does a good one too.
Jason A. Thomas
I appreciate the minimalistic approach she took to this.
