The original members of Y&T were Dave Meniketti (lead vocals and lead guitar), Leonard Haze (drums), Phil Kennemore (bass), and Joey Alves (rhythm guitar). Haze was replaced by Jimmy DeGrasso in 1986. Alves was replaced by Stef Burns in 1989. The band officially disbanded in 1991, although they continued to perform sporadically. They officially reunited in 2001 with a lineup of Meniketti, Kennemore, and Burns alongside Leonard Haze. Burns eventually went on to join the pop rock outfit Huey Lewis & The News and was replaced by John Nymann. Nymann was an old friend of the band who had sung backup for the group before. In 2006, Haze was asked to step down, and he was replaced by Mike Vanderhule.
The band's signature hits include "Summertime Girls", a Van Halen like piece of cheeky arena rock that reached #55 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1985, and ""Mean Streak." That latter track hiked up to #25 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock chart due to its aggressive, heavy style. Y&T's 1984 album, 'In Rock We Trust', has been their highest selling release, reaching #46 on the Billboard Album Charts and selling over 450,000 copies; the spirited album came very close to Gold status.

Prélude
Y&T Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The show is about to begin
This show has been rated X
To expand on your dramatic experience
There will be glorious and horrific
Displays of humanity
There will be great triumphs
Undyind love and unyielding heartache
Unspeakable acts of cruelty
Campassionate acts of kindness
There will be crushing defeats
And glorious achievements
Critics worldwide give five stars
And call this show, Beautiful!
Beautiful!
Y&T's song Prelude is an introduction to a show, presumably a theatrical performance, that is about to begin. The lyrics suggest that this show is meant to be a highly dramatic and intense experience that is rated X. The use of the X-rating might imply that the show is for mature audiences only or even that the content will be highly explicit or shocking. The song goes on to suggest that this show will provide a range of experiences, from glorious triumphs to devastating tragedies. It will showcase both humanity's most compassionate acts of kindness and its most unspeakable acts of cruelty.
The use of contrasting themes in the lyrics creates a sense of anticipation and heightened emotion. The juxtaposition of unyielding heartache with undying love, and crushing defeats with glorious achievements, suggests a performance that will take the audience on a rollercoaster ride of emotions. The fact that critics worldwide have given the show five stars and call it "Beautiful!" implies that the experience will be intense but ultimately uplifting and worth witnessing.
In conclusion, Y&T's Prelude is a powerful and evocative song that sets the stage for a dramatic and intense experience. The lyrics use contrasting themes to create a sense of anticipation and heightened emotion, suggesting a performance that will take the audience on a rollercoaster ride of emotions.
