Between mixtapes, producing, contemporary art pieces and flight hopping from state to state Yeek has finally been able to drop his first solo music video which he directed and edited himself.
I would probably describe my style as 'imaginative'. My main influences come from cartoon style illustrations, funk music, & the 90s hip-hop culture & 90s hardcore American punk culture. I would have to say the major difference between LA & Florida is that the people are meaner in Florida & that helped me grow as person. I was born in Jersey City, raised in Florida." - YEEK
Sad Summer
YEEK Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
My eyes burn from the chlorine
Swimming in the deep
Why did i ask for peace?
...
It's gonna be a sad, sad summer
It's gonna be a sad, sad summer
...
Just take me to the beach
Take me to the deep end
I'm tryna fall asleep
...
It's gonna be a sad, sad summer
It's gonna be a sad, sad summer
...
It's gonna be a sad, sad summer
It's gonna be a sad, sad summer
It's gonna be a sad, sad summer
It's gonna be a sad, sad summer
...
The lyrics to YEEK's song "Sad Summer" convey a feeling of discomfort and unease in the midst of a season that is typically associated with happiness and relaxation. The opening lines reveal the singer's physical discomfort as they swim in chlorinated water - their eyes burn, and the experience is far from peaceful. This sets the tone for the rest of the song, as the singer reflects on their dissatisfaction with the season.
The chorus repeats the lines, "It's gonna be a sad, sad summer," emphasizing the singer's pessimistic outlook. While others may be looking forward to carefree days at the beach, the singer seems resigned to a summer that will bring only sadness. The following verse continues the theme of discomfort, with the singer lying in the heat and seeking an escape in the ocean's depths.
Overall, the song articulates a sense of restlessness and dissatisfaction that is often deeply relatable. In many ways, the lyrics capture the tension between high expectations and the sometimes-underwhelming reality of seasonal change.
