Though you've decided that our love is wrong
And think that we should part
It seems as though I have loved you so long
You'll always be in my heart

Is it a sin
Is it a crime
Loving you dear like I do
If it's a crime then I'm guilty
Guilty of loving you

Maybe I'm wrong dreaming of you
Dreaming the lonely night through
If it's a crime then I'm guilty
Guilty of dreaming of you

What can I do
What can I say
After I've taken the blame?
You say we're through
You'll go your way
But I'll always feel just the same

Maybe I'm right
Maybe I'm wrong
Loving you dear like I do
If it's a crime then I'm guilty
Guilty of loving you

Is it a sin, is it a crime
Loving you, dear, like I do?
If it's a crime, then I'm guilty
Guilty of loving you
Maybe I'm wrong
Dreaming of you
Dreaming the lonely night through
If it's a crime, then I'm guilty
Guilty of dreaming of you
What can I do?
What can I say?
After I've taken the blame?
You say you're through
You'll go your way
But I'll always feel just the same
Maybe I'm right
Maybe I'm wrong
Loving you, dear, like I do
If it's a crime, then I'm guilty
Guilty of loving you
Maybe I'm right
Maybe I'm wrong
Loving you, desr, line I do
If it's a crime, then I'm guilty
Guilty of loving you 🎶💖💞

This beautiful number from 1931 is the year my wonderful parents were married. They remained married for 55 years until mum passed and dad went within 6 months of a broken heart. This recording reminds me of them so much.

Men and women stayed married then. They were more mature. Today people are juvenile in the late 20s

I truly hope that someday we'll come back to music as beautiful as this and singers like Al Bowlly. Things do, sometimes, go in circles.

It won't happen. You can never go back. Strangely the people were more innocent then. Love, romance was looked upon very differently. Most men and women were looking for a person to marry; women wanted children and could only have them in marriage. A big difference was that it was very hard for a man and woman, the average man and woman, to be alone in comfort. Hence lyrics like, "March winds and April showers make way for sweet Mayflowers; and then comes June the moon and you." In other words, fine weather meant kissing and cuddling in the open spaces away from parents!

There might be hope yet. After all:

Sadly today's music is tasteful but not common with the arrival of individuals like Bieber and Minaj who's "performances" only consist of mere autotune and vapid lyrics with the depth of a kitty pool you do have some great revival bands here and there but other than that the Great and revered Golden Age is gone and glorious skilled and talented songs and musicians and orchestra like this is all we will ever have sadly

Paul Little

I personally think that music reflects the people, and many today are selfish and lack the discipline of those days, and this is reflected in today's music unfortunately.

My favorite Al recording, along with "Here Lies Love," "On A Steamboat Coming Over" and of course "Love Is The Sweetest Thing." He makes me cry. I think it is wonderful that today he is still world known, still selling records, still revered and adored.

What a beautiful recording by this wonderful orchestra with Al Bowlly ... an achievement that may never be equaled. 👍😇

Yes. Ray Noble was a typical gentlemanly Englishman of the time. He was popular in America.
