Le jour de l
Yann Tiersen Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

De tes amants bien revenus
Dans tes beaux habits neufs
Tu devrais bien quand même
Voir l'entrée ou alors
Tu n'a sans doute rien compris
Même si t'a quand même tout détruit
Dans le pavillon nord
Que t'avais redouté
La grande sortie offerte
Que tu m'avais refusée
On allait se le dire
Qu'on n'était pas bien là
Et aller bien au fond
Et revenir encore
Sans jamais dépasser
La porte et le corridor
Do bâtiment d'ici
Son allure extérieure
Quand tu chialais tu faisais moins peur
Comme si tu effaçais tous mes erreurs
Et j'imaginais bien
Ça ne tenait à presque rien
On aurait pu faire face
À ce qu'on avait vu
Le jour de l'ouverture
De notre grande surface
On aurait dû s'achever
Pour ne pas avoir à en pleurer
Se retrouver dehors
Sans doute elles seront là
Peut-être sortie des salles
En face en plein milieu
Pour enfin se préparer

Il suffisait d'why croire
À nos belles retrouvailles..

Overall Meaning

The song "Le jour de l'ouverture" tells the story of a dysfunctional relationship. The lyrics illustrate the mixture of hope, love, and disappointment that exists between the two lovers. The first stanza sets the stage with the line "De tes amants bien revenus, Dans tes beaux habits neufs", which translates to "From your lovers well returned, In your new beautiful clothes". This line suggests that the woman has been with many other men and that she is now cloaked in a new persona. Despite this, the lover still desires to see her and hopes that she can change her destructive ways.
In the following stanzas, the lover reflects on their relationship, how they could have done things differently, and how they still long for each other. The lines "On allait se le dire, Qu'on n'était pas bien là, Et aller bien au fond, Et revenir encore" which translates to "We were going to tell each other, That we were not happy there, And go deep, And come back again" shows that the two of them had come to a realization about their relationship, but it was too late. They were stuck within the confines of the building and unable to break free from the emotional chains that bound them.

Overall, "Le jour de l'ouverture" views love as complex, full of contradictions, and ultimately unfulfilling. It speaks of the human condition, of the brief moments of happiness, and the lingering sense of vulnerability and isolation that accompanies life.

Escuchando a Yann Tiersen me decidí en ser compositor, y estoy empezando con arreglos, algún día voy a llegar a ser como el.

I was standing on a balcony while this song started playing in the living room. Rain and thunder were unexpected since it was a really hot sunny day... I was watching the trees, and plants on balconies across the street, and as I looked from plant to plant I felt like I know them. Like I’ve seen an old friend or acquaintance. Trees were slowly moving on a wind like they were alive and every now and then I could see a thunderstruck. It was perfect. I never felt more life inside of me/us and more in sync with nature.

His music moved me to tears. Now it's all at a new dimension: I'm learning accordion thanks to his sublime work. Thanks forever monsieur Tiersen.
