The band name originates from the football player Lev Yashin, founding member Paul Travers was nicknamed after the footballer and the name was used for the band.
In 2007 they released their first EP Pay To Play, which contained 4 songs. In 2008 they released their second EP Miles Away But Getting Closer which gets its name from the track Heroes (Alive In Us Yet). This second EP featured two songs from Pay To Play; a re-recorded version of So We’re Named After Saints and an acoustic version of Tonight We Dance.
In October 2008 Michael Rice announced he was leaving the band due to personal reasons. The rest of the band auditioned potential vocalists for the band and in 2009 announced that Glaswegian Kevin Miles and American Harry Radford would both be fronting the band. The two had auditions one after the other.
In 2010 they released their first full length album Put Your Hands Where I Can See Them which featured the singles Friends In High Places, Stand Up and Get Loose! It also featured a cover of Everytime.

Later in the year they released a video for Runaway Train, and released the Runaway Train EP, which along with the title track had on it covers of Wherever I may Roam (also featured on Kerrang's Black Album Covered) and One Step Closer, as well as acoustic recordings of other Yashin songs.
They went on a headline tour of the UK, with support from We Butter The Bread With Butter, Shadows Chasing Ghosts and Azriel. During the tour they also performed at the Vans Warped Tour UK. Now it's all gone wrong,
You've had your 15 minutes lets move on.
You think I can't see what your doing.
It won't be, it won't be long, o'course it won't.
It won't be, it won't be long, o'course it won't.
IT WON'T BE LONG!
It won't be, it won't be long, course it won't.
IT'S SOMEONE YOU LOVE, WHICH SOON YOU LOATHE!
And you think I can't see what your doing,
You think I can't see.
It won't be, it won't be long, o'course it won't.
It won't be, it won't be long, o'course it won't.
The clocks will turn to our time,
IT WON'T BE LONG!
It won't be, it won't be long, course it won't.
THIS IS THE STAGE, YOU DON'T BELONG! (AHHHHHH)
THIS IS THE STAGE, YOU DON'T BELONG!
WOO!
THIS IS THE STAGE, YOU DON'T BELONG!
The song "Friends in High Places" by Yashin seems to deal with a situation where the singer's enemies have underestimated him and his ability to rise against adversities. The song starts with the opponents feeling victorious and trying to stop them at any cost, but it takes a turn when the singer calls them out for their actions. He tells them that he can see through their facade and how they are trying to sabotage them. The chorus emphasizes that their time of victory won't last long, and everything will turn to their favor. It's like a warning to those who think they can win by bringing them down.
The song has a powerful message of perseverance, reminding listeners that hard work and dedication can eventually turn the tide in one's favor. It also speaks about how haters often try to bring you down but never succeed if you have faith in yourself. The words "This is the stage, you don't belong" emphasize that the singer is secure in his position and that his detractors have no place or influence in his life.
Overall, "Friends in High Places" by Yashin is about not giving up when the chips are down; even when the world seems to be against you, trust in yourself and keep pushing forward.
