Yazoo were formed in early 1982 by former Depeche Mode songwriter Vince Clarke (synthesizers) and English singer Alison Moyet (vocals) and signed to Mute Records in the United Kingdom.
Their debut single "Only You" was released on 15 March 1982 and rose to number 2 on the UK charts. They also released two studio albums: Upstairs at Eric's in 1982 and You and Me Both in 1983.
Shortly after the release of the second album, Moyet and Clarke decided to break up. Moyet pursued a solo career while Clarke first founded (the short lived) The Assembly followed by the successful Erasure.
Vince Clarke and Alison Moyet briefly reunited in 2008 and toured Europe and the United States as Yazoo for the first time in twenty-five years. Also in 2008, their record company issued a 4-disc box set called In Your Room; containing remastered editions of both of their original albums, a disc of b-sides and remixes (imaginitively titled B-Sides and Remixes) and a DVD containing promotional videos, interviews etc.

Sweet Thing
Yazoo Lyrics

I give in
Sweet thing
I give in (submission)
(don't you want to right it, fight it)
Oh, no, if you don't think it's right
Can't change your mind if I talk all night
(don't you want to right it, fight it)
Oh, no, 'cause nothing now can keep this a good thing.
Hey, hey, hey, sweet thing
I give in
Sweet thing
I give in (submission)
(don't you want to right it, fight it)
Just go.
I don't want to fight
Just take your things
And say goodnight
(don't you want to right it, fight it)
Just go.
'cause nothing now can keep this a good thing.
Hey, hey, hey how could you be so unkind
When you were lying to me all the time
You don't need me now your life is fine
It's your day now, but it's gonna be mine
Oh and what a sweet day.
Hey, hey, hey,
(submission)
(don't you want to right it, fight it)
Oh, no, if you don't think it's right
Can't change your mind if I talk all night
(don't you want to right it, fight it)
Oh, no, 'cause nothing now can keep this a good thing.
Hey, hey, hey how could you be so unkind
When you were lying to me all the time
You don't need me now your life is fine
It's your day now, but it's gonna be mine
Oh and what a sweet day.
Sweet thing, I give in
Sweet thing, I give in
Sweet thing, submission (i give in)
Sweet thing, submission (i give in)
Sweet thing, submission (i give in)
In the lyrics of Sweet Thing by Yazoo, the singer addresses someone they refer to as "sweet thing" and admits to submitting themselves to this person. The repetition of the phrase "Sweet thing, I give in" emphasizes the singer's sense of surrender and resignation. The lyrics suggest that there has been conflict in this relationship, perhaps about whether or not it is "right," and that the singer has decided to stop fighting and submit to the other person's wishes.
The lines "Can't change your mind if I talk all night" and "You don't need me now your life is fine" suggest that the singer has been trying to convince the other person to stay in the relationship, but to no avail. Despite their efforts, the relationship is coming to an end, and the singer is resigned to this fact. The closing lines, "It's your day now, but it's gonna be mine / Oh and what a sweet day," suggest that the singer is looking forward to a future without this person and perhaps even feeling empowered by the prospects of starting anew.
