Fine Time
Yazz & The Plastic Population Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Keeping our love alive
There's nobody else but you tonight
Your light is shining bright.
Oh
this is a fine time to change your mind
Yeah
Yeah
this is a fine time
I can't go on without your love.
We've been together so long
you kept me satisfied
How could you walk out my life?
I don't know if I can love you
the way that you want me to love you
I still need you here tonight
your light is shining bright.
Oh
this is a fine time to change your mind
Yeah
you picked a fine time to cross the line.
Yeah
this is a fine time
I can't go on without your love.
Everybody seems to tell you
that ain't no good for you
You say that I make you feel so blue.
Tell me now
was I so blind?
Oh
this is a fine time to change your mind
...
Oh
this is a fine time to change your mind
...
The lyrics to Yazz & The Plastic Population's song Fine Time touch on themes of love, magic, and the need for human connection. The song suggests that love is a kind of magic that can keep us alive and that the light shining within us is the result of our love for someone else. The chorus "this is a fine time to change your mind" suggests that the singer's partner is considering leaving, but they need their love to survive.
The verses reflect on the couple's history together and the singer's fear of being abandoned. They express concern that they won't be able to love their partner in the "right" way, but that they still need them in their life. The lines "everybody seems to tell you / that ain't no good for you / you say that I make you feel so blue" reflect the outside perspective of friends and family who may be questioning the relationship.
Overall, Fine Time is a song that speaks to the deep human need for connection and the fear of losing someone we love. It suggests that love is a powerful force that can sustain us through difficult times and that without it, we can't go on.

Although The Only Way is Up was her most successful hit, this was my favourite Yazz track. A lovely mellow, soulful song with nice instrumentals. You really get to appreciate her vocal talents too.

This is far better than "the only way is up". This should've been Yazz's signature song.
