Yeasayer released their second studio album, Odd Blood, in February 2010, featuring more pop music influences than earlier work. The band revealed that the album came out of a massive acid trip in New Zealand. Peter Gabriel’s drummer Jerry Marotta helped to record Odd Blood in an upstate New York studio packed with rare synths and percussion instruments from around the globe to create the characteristic worldbeat sound of the album.
Yeasayer released their third studio album, Fragrant World, in August 2012. According to the Fingers Never Bleed Songfacts, it was named after a track that didn't make the new album's final cut.
Yeasayer officially announced its dissolution on December 19, 2019.
Tightrope
Yeasayer Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
And you're wishing you could set it right
And you're wishing you could stay the night
But then I go again, wishing never solved the problem
If you wanna get it big time, go ahead and get it, get it big time
So I think I can solve all problems by myself
Oh nevermind, nevermind, nevermind, nevermind, nevermind
And you think you can solve all your problems by yourself
Oh nevermind, nevermind, nevermind, nevermind, nevermind
Uh give it, give it, give it, give it
Until you just can't give no more
Uh give it, give it, give it, give it
Until you just can't give no more
Uh give it, give it, give it, give it
Until you just can't give no more
Uh give it, give it, give it, give it
Until you just can't give no more
The lyrics of Yeasayer's song "Tightrope" reflect the struggle to deal with and move on from past mistakes. The first verse presents the idea of regret, wishing that embarrassing things had never been done and hoping to set things right. However, the singer realizes that simply wishing for a solution does not solve the problem. The second verse shows the belief that one can solve all of their problems on their own, but this is eventually dismissed as well, with the repetition of "nevermind".
The chorus emphasizes the idea of giving it all you've got until you can't give anymore. This can be interpreted as giving one's best effort to overcome the obstacles and problems in their life, even though it may not always lead to a successful outcome.
Overall, the lyrics of "Tightrope" convey a message of perseverance and the importance of taking action to overcome challenges, rather than simply wishing for an easy solution.
