Boomerang
Yebba Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

If I shoot him in the stomach
Then he's hurting on my dime
And if I shoot him in the head, then he's dead and he's livin' on my mind
My reflection in the mirror
Her perfection in his eyes
I'm a danger to myself
I run from twelve and take my rage across the county line
oh, oh oh

But I won't let this go
Not my tomorrow
Don't forget your pride, it's laying in her bed of sorrow

What you, what you done to me
I swear to you it's gonna come back like a boomerang
Woo-woo
Woo-woo
Woo, woo-woo

You knew my daddy didn't like you
From the moment you two met
He knew too well, you would drag me through Hell
And never come back for the baby we'd regret
Oh, oh, oh

But I won't let this go
Not my tomorrow
Don't forget your pride
It's laying in her bed of sorrow

What you, what you done to me
I swear to you it's gonna come back like a boomerang
Woo-woo
Woo-woo
Woo, woo-woo

What you done to me
I swear to you it's gonna come back like a boomerang
And knock you to your knees
I swear to you it's gonna come back like a boomerang
Woo-woo

Woo-woo
Woo, woo-woo

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Yebba's "Boomerang" convey a sense of anger and revenge towards a former lover who has caused pain and heartbreak. The singer contemplates violent actions towards their ex-lover, noting that if they were to shoot them, they would either cause physical pain or emotional turmoil for themselves. The imagery of the reflection in the mirror suggests a sense of self-doubt and insecurity, while the perfection in the ex-lover's eyes highlights the hold they still have over the singer. This creates a sense of danger and desperation, as the singer flees from the authorities and takes their rage across the county line.

However, the chorus takes a different turn, as the singer resolves not to let go of their own happiness and future, despite their anger and pain. They encourage their former lover not to forget their own pride and to acknowledge the sorrow they have caused. The title of the song, "Boomerang," suggests that the actions of the ex-lover will come back to them in some form, and the repetition of the phrase "Woo-woo" emphasizes this sense of inevitability and return.

Overall, "Boomerang" is a powerful and emotional depiction of a relationship gone wrong, and the turmoil and anger that can result from heartbreak and betrayal. It portrays the complexity of human emotions and the struggle to move past the hurt caused by those we once loved.

The track was inspired by a friend of Yebba’s who was in an unhealthy relationship. “As soon as she had a baby, her husband started beating her,” the singer-songwriter explains. “Because I’ve never been married and I’ve never had a kid, the best way I knew how to tell that story was to describe how I feel when I’m blindsided by a relationship, and the shock that comes with that. I walked into this space in my mind where I find the one I love in someone else’s bed, and my mind goes right to violence. It’s the kind of thing where you have so much comfortability with rage, you’re able to think through it logically—like: ‘If I shoot him in the stomach, I’m gonna have to pay his hospital bill, so fuck that. If I shoot him in the head, then I could be convicted of murder. So what am I supposed to do?’ It ends up being a picture of running with your rage, and just trusting that karma will come back around and take care of things for you.”

Yeah but it's not that easy to control that rage! But yeah karma's a bitch!
Oh and as for the friend, she shacked up with a narcissist, they get you pregnant or try to have a baby with you asap, or get married like really quick ( you know within like 6 months to a year or something) to trap you and then start the devaluation, either using emotional and mental or physical, whichever method of manipulation works for them to control you. They use so many different methods and that comes after a massive love bombing phase. It's fucked up really!
